Holi is the day to forget all your problems and be happy. Known as the "Festival of Colours" or the "Festival of Love", Holi marks the transition from the dark, cold days of winter to the brighter, warmer days of spring. It is a celebration of love, colour and the triumph of good over evil.

This Hindu religious festival continues to increase in popularity and it is celebrated by Indian communities in many parts of the world. People in South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Kingdom and Nepal are among the international groups that host large Holi events.

The festival begins in the evening with a bonfire where people gather to sing and dance. The next day, people of all ages go into the streets to have fun. They throw brightly-coloured powder and spray coloured water at each other. During Holi, Indian social codes are more relaxed. Everyone is invited to celebrate, with no distinction between rich and poor, men and women, young and old.
