辛格食生蠔
初聞辛格(Peter Singer)其人其說,是在大學一年班必修的哲學概論課上,他論動物權益的著作由此可算哲學入門的範文。他的著作確實適合新手,因其行文淺白,且題材切身。試問還有比送到嘴邊的食物更切身嗎?而他辯護動物權益確實卓然成家,在世間影響深遠。他太概算當世宣傳自己哲學立場最成功的哲學家了。
還記得修完哲學概論課後,還真有同學因此守了半年至一年的齋戒。雖則我啖肉如故,然但凡讀過辛格論動物權益,就無法置若罔聞,不能再裝胡塗了。每個同學要麼受辛格說服,從此避葷,而麼得想出一套過到人亦過到自己的道理,以捍衛肉食習慣。此即我輩哲學初體驗:紙上所論並非僅僅為概念遊戲,更催人反思過往視為當然的生活習慣,從而改變世間。

You mentioned eating oysters and clams. That seems to me to be something that’s clearly not vegan, but I don’t see anything wrong with it if I’m right that oysters and clams are not sentient beings and if they are grown and harvested in a way that does not harm the environment.
