Vietnam's deforestation-free supply chain relies on collaboration with small farmers

Nearly all forest-based commodities produced in Vietnam are shipped to other countries that, through their market demands and laws, have increasing influence over trends and practices related to deforestation. Recent research found that nearly 70 percent of tropical deforestation associated with such commodities between 2013 and 2019 was illegal. Smallholders play a vital role in producing these commodities, so for the industry to be sustainable, they need fair and equitable access to export markets: governments and businesses in consumer and producer markets have an important role to play in this .
