This title is not click bite. "Christmas" has indeed come! What I'm talking about is the latest work "Christmas Truce" by my favorite power metal band SABATON, which was released early at the end of October.

Just like the introduction to SABATON I wrote before , this work is also drawn from the history of war, and in my opinion, the most memorable scene in modern warfare: under the First World War, the Western European front was in the Christmas period. A brief truce, later known as the "Christmas Truce".

SABATON's MVs have always been exceptionally high-quality, and this time it is top 1 in my heart. From the brutality of the war to the self of the soldiers involved, when someone stood up and put down their weapons, everyone gradually gathered together, kicking waves and playing music, as if the war did not exist at the moment.

For the common people like me in the era of peace, or it is difficult to understand, why the two armies, who were enemies with each other during the war, could lay down their weapons on Christmas Day and celebrate with the "enemy" of the previous moment. Maybe it's just simple, on the battlefield where "today doesn't know tomorrow", they hope to use a truce to pursue the tranquility of the Christmas moment.

Or, just in the cruel environment of life or death, killing and being killed, the buffer of the truce allows them to find their remaining rationality and self. At the moment of the truce, before becoming a soldier, one can live as a "human"; before facing an opponent and treating him as an enemy, one can first regard them as "friends" and "brothers" on the same land. " and contact.

Maybe they can only have this dreamy vision for a short time, but this "illusion" is enough to retain a trace of humanity in this "biggest and most terrifying war in history", is it worth it?

I don't think I need to answer.

* Chinese translation made by myself, may not be completely accurate Silence
Silence Oh, I remember the silence
Oh I remember the peace of that moment On a cold winter day
After many months on the battlefield
After countless months on the battlefield And we were used to the violence
The violence we're used to Then all the cannons went silent
Then all the cannons were silent And the snow fell
Then it snowed Voices sang to me from no man's land
Singing from no man's land We are all (We are all, we are all)
we are (we are, we are)
We are all friends
We are all friends And today we're all brothers
And today we are siblings Tonight we're all friеnds
We are friends tonight A moment of peace in a war that nеver ends
Peaceful moments in never-ending warToday we're all brothers
Today we are all brothers and sisters We drink and unite
Reunited for a drink Now Christmas has arrived and the snow turns the ground white
Christmas is here and the snow turns the battlefield white Hear carols from the trenches
Hear the chant We sing O Holy Night in the trenches
We sing "Holy Night"
Our guns laid to rest among snowflakes
Our guns lay flat on the snow A Christmas in the trenches
A Christmas on the front far from home
A Christmas Madness on the Frontlines Far From Home
Crazy Oh, I remember the sadness
Oh I remember the sorrows We were hiding our tears
We held back our tears In a foreign land where we face our fears
Facing fear in a foreign land We were soldiers
We are soldiers Carried the war on our shoulders
Carrying the war to For our nations
For the country Is that why we bury our friends?
Is that why we bury our comrades?

We were all (We were all, we were all)
we are (we are, we were)
We were all friends
We were friends and today we're all brothers
Christmas on the front lines away from home We were all (We were all, we were all)
we are (we are, we were)
We were all friends
We were friends and today we're all brothers
And today we are siblings Tonight we're all friеnds
We are friends tonight A moment of peace in a war that nеver ends
Peaceful moments in never-ending warToday we're all brothers
Today we are all brothers and sisters We drink and unite
Reunited for a drink Now Christmas has arrived and the snow turns the ground white
A Christmas on the frontline
On the front lines of ChristmasWe walk among our friends
We walk by our comrades We don't think about tomorrow
We don't think about tomorrow The battle will commence
Because the war is about to rekindle When we celebrated Christmas
As we celebrated Christmas We thought about our friends
We thought of our comrades Those who never made it home
When the battle had commenced
fallen into war
