Malaysian state license plates (1)
This article will talk about the license plate situation of various states in Malaysia.
Malaysia is a federal country, that is, the sultanates with small territories in the past, but with similar national histories. Everyone united to become a country (of course, the intervention of the British was indispensable), and the leaders of these sultanates took turns each. The state rotates as the leader of the alliance for five years. This leader is what we call the supreme head of state, but his powers are vacant and cannot interfere with the administration (but he is also the supreme religious leader and the commander-in-chief of the three armed forces).
Because the license plate numbers vary from state to state, each state will have some special license plates that are popular.
First of all, let's talk about Perak, whose license plate starts with A, and the Malay name is Perak. Although there is an English letter A in the state name, but the first letter is used like this, I think it is very strange - why there is A as the license plate code.
I checked the online information and said that because Perak was rich in tin mines in the last century, many mine owners were also rich and became the first people to own cars in Malaya, so the A license plate started there.
The same principle is applied to Selangor, the most developed state in Malaysia. When everyone arrives at Kuala Lumpur Airport by plane, they will first arrive in Selangor. In the past, Kuala Lumpur belonged to the state of Selangor, so there are many tin mines here, so the second letter B in English is hung on the license plate.
After the establishment of the Federation, Selangor ceded Kuala Lumpur to the central government and established the Federal Territory Wilayah Persekutuan, so the cars registered in Kuala Lumpur are headed by W.
Kuala Lumpur, the capital of goodness, also has the highest number of new car registrations in the country. There is a saying that used cars with Kuala Lumpur license plates are more valuable than the adjacent Selangor license plates. So the number of the license plate and the wheel quickly goes all the way to the last available WYY (Z is dedicated to the military and is easily confused with "2", which is generally not used)
The plan given by the Ministry of Transport was to add an English letter after Wxx (such as WA xxxx L in the photo), but everyone felt that they were not interested in bidding for the Kuala Lumpur license plate.
Therefore, the authorities took the initiative to cut the W in half and changed it into a V, and created a fortune for themselves by doing what everyone wanted, and everyone was eager to bid for the license plate.
At the same time as the V license plate was launched, the F license plate was also launched. This F license plate is dedicated to Putrajaya, the administrative center of Putrajaya (Prince City). Later, there will be FAB, FAN, FAR, FAT, FAV, FAX and so on.
The H license plate is only for taxis, and the H is from Hawa dingin (air-conditioning). Why is the air-conditioning first? Maybe in the past, most people did not need air-conditioning when they opened their windows, but commercial taxis must use air-conditioning to serve passengers, right?
The letters after H represent the state where the taxi is registered. For example, the following taxi is registered in Kuala Lumpur:
