"Nanchang Deposit" has been rated as a "Class II Historic Building" because of its architectural features of pre-war tenement buildings and witnessing the legalization and prosperity of the pawnbroking industry in Hong Kong. It was then downgraded to "Level 3" in 2010.

The difference between "Grade II" and "Grade III" historic buildings is whether they have "special value" rather than just "some value", and whether their value can be preserved by means other than preserving the building. "Class 1" means that the building is of "particularly significant value" and every effort must be made to preserve it where practicable.

Since the implementation of the "Historic Building Rating System" and its announcement, at least 55 rated buildings in Hong Kong have been downgraded, of which 22 have been downgraded from "Grade 1" to "Grade 2", and 33 buildings have been downgraded from "Grade 2" to "Grade 2". Level 3", including "Nanchang Deposit".

In addition, the "Historical Building Grading System" is only nominal. There is currently no legislation in Hong Kong to protect the historic buildings rated under the "Historical Building Grading System". , reconstruction, or even demolition.

The "Historical Building Rating System" used to be the government's internal information and was not released to the public. It was not until 2007 that after the "Queen's Wharf" controversy, the rating information was gradually released. In addition, the then Secretary for Development (the current Chief Executive) Carrie Lam promised to rebuild Queen's Wharf, but 14 years later, there is still no progress.
