The experience of chickens and ducks | Promoting cultural exchanges

When I went to study in the United States before, I met many friends from mainland China by fate. Although we both knew Chinese, there was an interesting phenomenon of chickens and ducks speaking because of the different language:

sanitary napkin

I remember that a gentle and beautiful mainland girl was sitting next to me in class. She asked me in a low voice, "Do you have sanitary pads?".

Very bluntly, I asked her out loud, "Do you want sanitary pads? Toilet paper or handkerchiefs?"

Then there was a sudden silence all around, and the mainland male students sitting near us all laughed.

Afterwards, the girl told me very low-key and shy that sanitary napkins mean sanitary napkins... After I listened to it, a whole crow flew over XD

Teacher Tony

Once I was chatting with my mainland classmate on my cell phone, and he suddenly said to me, "I have something to do later, so I can't continue chatting with you, because I have an appointment with Mr. Tony."

On the other end of the phone, I was silent for 5 seconds, thinking seriously about who is Teacher Tony?

Then I answered him: "Do you also watch Taiwan's 'Women I'm the Biggest'? Do you know Mr. Tony?"

Then he replied, "What is the greatest thing about me as a woman?"

Then I explained to him that "Women I'm the Biggest" is a Taiwanese variety show with a resident guest named Tony.

Later, he explained to me very seriously that Mr. Tony means "hair stylist" in mainland China.

In fact, I was also full of doubts about "he's a big man who doesn't care what a woman is, and I'm the biggest". After listening to his explanation, I suddenly became enlightened.

No answer to "thank you"

Once I helped my mainland friend get a bottle of water, and he said, "Thank you," and I answered him unconsciously, "No."

Then he paused for 5 seconds and asked me, "You don't know anything?"

Then I replied to him, "What can I not know?"

So we looked at each other for 5 seconds, trying to figure out what the hell we were saying to each other (it was really funny at the time)

Finally, I had a flash of inspiration and found that he didn't seem to understand the meaning of "no", and then I seriously explained to him that sometimes when Taiwanese responded "thank you", they would say "no".

He thought about it for 5 seconds, and seriously asked me why I said no? ...Well, I actually don't know XD

However, he told me that most of the responses in the mainland were "it's okay".

This process of chicken and duck talking can be regarded as promoting cultural exchanges. XD
