Community Activities│ Beauty of Failure
In 2017, I worked in graphic design at the company at the time. That was my third year of graphic design. To be honest, those three years were a bit busy. I felt like a day was a day. I did whatever my boss told me to do, and I changed whatever I wanted to change, and I thought I was pretty good. strong. But I also gradually began to realize that I seem to be missing something, I don’t know what it is, and I don’t know who to ask this question, because I found that the position of graphic design does not seem to have much impact on the company; sometimes I feel that I have done a good job, But the boss insisted on making changes; he didn't know how to explain his design work to others.
In short, start to have all kinds of questions about the "design" thing.
Towards the end of the same year, various things happened, which made the question bigger and bigger, and made me think, "No.. This problem must be solved."
Found a room.. don't know if it's a cram school or a college? It has classrooms in Taipei, New Taipei, and Taichung. Kaohsiung also seems to have classrooms. The teaching scope is also very wide, including graphic, web, 3D, photography, illustration, etc. How was it taught? I have learned something, but I think their graphic design course is suitable for beginners, maybe office workers want to learn new skills, or want to start their own brand business, their courses can be regarded as introductory, but if you want to be in graphic design (the one I took is a graphic design course) to a higher level and may not be suitable.
A little digression, when the course was about to end, I had a little chat with the teacher about whether to go to university, because I found that what I lacked seemed to be theoretical things, and I didn’t know what the university was studying, I felt It seems that I missed something, so I went to the university to see it (I was in a second college and applied a foreign language), and the teacher honestly didn't answer anything, just said, "If you want to see it, just go." It seemed a bit casual, But in a way it seems to be the case.
In 2018, they held a competition exclusively for this college, and of course students must participate without exception.
At that time, I was working on a personal project of "One Poster a Day", so I was good at posters, and the competition also had a poster category, so I chose to participate in the poster category.
To say the most difficult game is the game without the theme, it seems to give you complete freedom, but the world is so big, what are you going to do? At first, I was looking for what to do for a long time. Finally, I saw some pictures of "you had one job". It was very interesting, and I liked the extremely simple pictures and rich color schemes, so I wanted to say: "Then let's try it out. This combination?"
That's how these posters came out.
Of course, the design concept can't be written so casually, "I did it because it seemed interesting." It's okay to write it like this. But at that time, I felt that the "design concept" must be something very great, very philosophical, and the more people see it. Something that you understand, the more you speak, the better.
Anyway, it took me a while to figure out how to break it.
The name "Beauty of Failure" is named because these pictures are all the carelessness of someone at work, and I present this picture in a minimalist way, which is a combination of failure and beauty. The design philosophy is "Everyone will fail, and everyone is afraid of failure, but failure is not a bad thing. Only through failure can you know where your weaknesses are and allow yourself to continue to grow. So don't be afraid of failure and embrace failure. And see your own growth in failure.”
To be honest, I have forgotten what I wrote at the beginning, it is probably something similar to the dry talk above...
And I remember that after the work was completed, because there was an instructor, I had to show it to the instructor. The instructor said, "So what? What do you want to achieve later...?"
At that time, I didn’t know what the teacher meant, and I didn’t know what I wanted to achieve. I just did it because I thought it was “interesting”. Now I know that some people think that design must have a clear goal, must solve a certain problem, must be how, otherwise it is not design.
I think all creation, no matter what kind of creation, has a goal behind it and solves a certain problem. The difference lies in whether I explore the goal behind it, or the problem solved is not someone else’s problem, and It's not the world's problem, but its own problem, but it's also a problem to solve, it's all design.
In the end, I got a good work and held a small achievement presentation and award ceremony in Huashan Cultural and Creative Industry Park. I went on stage to accept the award and was nervous, but the whole award acceptance process was over in less than 10 seconds.... And the few pictures I made were also sold as postcards at the exhibition site, but I, the author, didn't get any commission... They asked me first if I could sell them as merchandise, and I was stupid. In vain, I promised not to ask for any benefits.. I learned a little lesson....
Then the results presentation meeting was said to be results presentation.. I think it is more marketing, because in Huashan there are people who are interested in visual design. Their main customer group is there, and they may be interested in that room when they see it. If you are interested in the cram school, it is very likely that many people will come to ask, and now it is quite clever...
The first one I was most satisfied with at the time was the first one, and the one I am most satisfied with now is the first one. Then all the "failures" above are real. Someone really blocked the stairs leading to the second floor. The color of the colored pencil is blue, but the lead is red, or there is no window but there are railings. These failures are actually nothing, just correct them if they are wrong, everyone makes mistakes, no big deal!
Like my work? Don't forget to support and clap, let me know that you are with me on the road of creation. Keep this enthusiasm together!
