I can't think of how to explain to him in such a short time that "rebellion" is an option without a choice. ----Wang Zengqi "The Old Woman Carrying the Child"

(Originally written on Facebook, there may be many sensitive words, and the touch rate is very low. Matters also posted it here as a souvenir.)

Today is June 4th, 33 years have passed since 1989. If you look at the age of a person, it is the age of 30, and all aspects have matured and become stable, and can play the role of the backbone of the society on its own.

However, for the process of democracy, 30 years are really short. From the return of Hong Kong in 1997, to the Umbrella Movement in 2014, to the present, the political rights of a society can be tightened to the point where they cannot breathe.

About 100 years ago, at the end of 1920, Cai Peihuo published an article "Taiwan Island and Us" in "Taiwan Youth", in which he said:

We Taiwanese are in this endless natural treasure house, and we are full of great mountains and rivers. How can we remain indifferent. We must not be idle and do nothing, Taiwan is the Taiwan of the empire, and it is the Taiwan of our Taiwanese!
what! We Taiwanese are the masters of this beautiful and treasured island. You should pay attention to this matter. As island owners, we should work together to make our compatriots enjoy happiness and well-being. This is not a dream!

After 100 years, although we were able to elect a president by the people in 1996, we still continue to face various threats to "democracy" from within and from the other side, especially the attacks of fake news and the conspiracy of the CCP's agents in Taiwan, all trying to divide you. I, influence our identity and social solidarity.

Do you say our democracy is firm?

I think the firmness of democracy can be measured by the degree of concern for the "other". If the majority of people are willing to "listen" in various ways, it means that the voices of the weak and unequally treated will be valued, and even this Society will, through the improvement of the system, avoid people's freedom and survival dignity being threatened and have to take to the streets.

Democracy is not just a form of voting, but the ability to listen to others.

Therefore, today, on June 4th, I would like to share the eleventh chapter of the third book of "A Hundred Years of Pursuit" - The Hurricane Era, Taiwan in the 1990s and 1990s. It was an era of vigorous economic development, and it was also a time when social forces had to break free. The age of political constraints.

In 1989, the Tiananmen incident occurred in the mainland, and the voice of the society was suppressed. In Taiwan, after the government announced the lifting of the law in 1987, various movements exploded from the smoldering pot, including political human rights, school autonomy, aboriginal, labor, and feminist movements. , and even the 1988 520 Peasant Movement, which removed the plaque of the Legislative Yuan during the conflict.

Those with vested interests or the official media will say that those who take to the streets are all thugs and hooligans, just like the students in the Sunflower student movement who are said to be sent by the DPP. Democracy has failed, so we can have these movements one after another on this island! One day when there is no parade in the streets, it is fortunate that the society is not very beautiful, and it is more likely that those voices were made out before the voices were made.

I remade some of the inside pages of the chapter "Hurricane Years". These are the historical facts of our predecessors who shed blood and tears for us, took to the streets to fight against the police, and founded organizations to carry out campaigns. On this special day, look back or recognize events that would not have been written into textbooks in our formative years.

In addition, at the end of this chapter, there is actually a mention of "Crazy Song". In the era of Hurricane, there was an album called "Crazy Song", which is very appropriate. This classic record is available on Apple Music and Spotify. As a Taiwanese, This is a must listen album. If you want to know more about the story of this album, it is recommended to read the special article written by Ma Shifang .
