Taiwan is not a member state of the United Nations, and its cultural assets are not eligible for inclusion in the world cultural heritage, but this does not mean that Taiwan does not have a world-class cultural heritage with both universal value and rarity. Due to the low self-esteem and myth of "Taiwan Light" pervading Taiwanese society, many things often have to be recognized internationally before they can be valued in Taiwanese society. Cultural assets are one of them.
