Mortal raving - 22.6.8 - The taste of home
Holy matters:
Two days ago, on Children's Day, I bought two potted plant seeds for my child, one with a small cucumber and the other with a small tomato. The child was very happy, and took time to plant both kinds of seeds with him together, looking forward to the seeds germinating every day. Sure enough, within a few days, the young shoots in the two small iron pots shyly stuck their heads out, and within a few days, the originally shy young shoots were already standing vigorously.
In a few days, it will be all about transplanting the cucumber and tomato seedlings. I didn't know what to do, so I called my mother in advance to ask for some precautions for transplanting. After all, in terms of farming, mother has worked all her life and naturally has full right to speak. A few words from my mother gave me a bottom in my heart.
After hanging up the phone, I suddenly remembered the time in my hometown when I was a child. At that time, almost every family’s farmyard would grow three or two kinds of seasonal vegetables every spring ploughing season, the most common being kidney beans, tomatoes and cucumbers. Every time I like to watch my parents plant the seeds, the seeds are carefully placed in the small soil pits dug in advance, then watered and covered with soil, and then under the blessing of rain, dew and sunlight, the dry land is turned into magic. A crop of cucumbers and kidney beans accompanied me throughout my childhood, and these vegetables were also my favorite when I was a very picky eater, and I almost never got tired of eating them.
It is my favorite to eat raw cucumbers. Pick a fresh and tender piece from the cucumber rack. Do not wash it with water. Mouth full of sweet, crunchy cucumbers are also the best substitute for toothbrush when children are short of fruit. People in the Liao Kingdom, no matter how old or young, like to eat raw vegetables, whether they are tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes, green onions, shallots, garlic, cabbage hearts, green peppers, eggplants, etc. This eating habit, the friends of Shu Kingdom still can't understand and accept it, just like I don't understand that they have to peel the peach when they eat it, the feeling is the same.
Kidney beans, on the other hand, are naturally a perfect match with potatoes, ribs or pork belly. When I was a child, I liked the stewed pork with kidney beans or stewed pork ribs made by my mother. Light the fire on the stove, heat a large iron pot, put in oil, ginger and garlic and other seasonings, then put the pork belly or ribs and stir fry. After frying the oil, continue to stir fry the washed kidney beans until the beans are broken. , add soy sauce, water, then simmer over high heat, and cook after half an hour. The kidney beans are soaked in the broth, and the soft and rotten taste is meaty. Scoop a spoonful of the soup at the bottom of the pot and mix it with rice, each piece of rice is full of the broth, and one bite is soul-stirring. I closed my eyes and carefully sipped the taste. At this moment, I feel that this bowl of soup and rice is the most beautiful taste in the world.
When it comes to cooking, although my mother's craftsmanship is good, in my heart she can at most rank second, and my father is naturally the top one. When my father was young, he was a well-known village cook. Whenever the neighbors in the village had happy events at home, they would inevitably ask my father for help. For home-cooked dishes, my father is naturally no problem. It may be a common problem of chefs. There is too much smoke and smoke outside. Usually, it is rare to be in charge at home. Unless it is a holiday, I will cook in person. Stewed fish is his specialty, no matter what kind of fish it is, it can almost be transformed into delicious food in his hands. And I think I'm picky and have a self-taught feeling about cooking, which may have been influenced by my father's subtle influence. In fact, his father has never been a teacher in cooking. In fact, his grandmother taught him at first, and then he spent some time on his own research, and the basic posture gradually became decent. Maybe this can be regarded as a kind of family inheritance.
My parents are getting older, and my father’s sense of taste has deteriorated due to frequent drinking. Although some specialty dishes are still available, the details of the taste are not as good as before. In addition to the reasons for the epidemic, it has been three years since I returned to Da Liao to sit with them and have a good meal. I hope I can have a chance this year.
As the saying goes, when parents are there, they don't travel far. But the children who travel far miss the most, in addition to the mountains, rivers and rivers of their homeland, there may be a few dishes that their parents are good at. This may be the taste of home.
