foreword

Whenever the end of the year is approaching, various types of new year journals and handbooks can be seen everywhere. Choosing a journal that meets your needs will help you record your daily mood, itinerary, annual goals or project planning. I hope to write well, but the actual achievement rate is terrible. Some projects even have a very low execution rate. In order to get rid of the slow growth in the past, planning the annual goals will indeed help stimulate our growth momentum, but how to plan, How to implement it so as to avoid the dilemma of "writing the same goal every year, but not achieving it in a year"?

wrong goal planning

First of all, we must first single out and discard the wrong way of planning goals, discarding the old ways of failing in the past, in order to have a chance to avoid the vicious circle of getting nothing every year.

Not finding motivation to achieve goals

Core power is the key to driving us forward. It is like a car with a strong engine and full power . The driver can easily run forward with a light step on the accelerator. If the driver drives a car with a weak engine and exhausted batteries, a At first, even if you press the accelerator hard, the car does not necessarily move. In the end, the driver has to get down and push the car. The road is difficult. This engine and battery are the driving force and energy for the car to move forward. Even if the driver insists on pushing, it will definitely not go far.

If you set an annual goal, you set it for no apparent reason, you just follow the trend, or you just feel that you can achieve this goal "seems pretty good", and in the end, you will become less and less aware of what you are working for, and you will not feel any The value of effort, a goal without motivation is impossible to achieve, and even if you manage to achieve it, you will only feel exhausted and empty.

Goals that are too big or out of reach

When planning your annual goals, maybe you just see how bright your friends are on social media, and follow the trend to plan a goal that has nothing to do with your life. Such a goal is out of bounds; too ambitious, plan greedily If you set a lot of goals that have never been achieved in previous years, or put the big goals that can only be achieved in 3 to 5 years, and put the whole into one-year goal planning, then you are definitely overestimating your ability!

Incomplete and unbalanced goal setting

What I mean by imbalanced goal setting is to think at the level that is involved in everyone's day-to-day life. For example, people who value work and money will usually fill in a lot of information related to how to get rich and work when setting annual goals. Growth and other related goals are the main goals, but it is easy to overlook planning for your own health, eating habits, interpersonal relationships, and spiritual abundance.

Life does not have only one aspect. Although work and money are important, they are not the only ones. The real growth is to achieve a balance in all aspects of the body, mind, and simultaneous improvement .

Goal planning is inflexible

This one is the most common way to go wrong . We will fill our schedules because we want to reach our goals as soon as possible, or because there are too many things we want to do. For example, we set a goal of memorizing 6,000 words in 4 months, and at the same time, we want to read more, so we set ourselves Read on weekdays to reach the goal of reading 1-2 books per month. Every weekend, you must learn English and recite 200 words. However, you are usually a person who often has parties and activities. This kind of goal setting method is obviously not sufficient. Consider, reserve adjustment space.

Inflexible goal planning not only makes us breathless, but can also give up because we can't catch up, causing us to fall further and further from our expectations.

Not specific enough and not setting short and medium-term goals

Setting annual big goals seems a bit vague, and without detailed planning of short and medium-term goals, it is easy to make yourself inefficient in actual implementation, and it will not highlight the sense of value/achievement after it is achieved .

For example: Set yourself up to learn 6,000 new words in 4 months, so naturally divide 6,000 by 120 days, and get that you need to recite 50 words a day until the end of 4 months, usually it's not that you haven't completed your goal, otherwise After only 2 days of memorizing, on the 3rd day, I forgot the words I recited the previous two days. After a week, I began to question my intention of setting this goal and gave up on myself, which did not really achieve the effect at all.

If short-term and medium-term goals are added to the above example, it can be: expect to learn 6,000 new words in 4 months, complete words on two topics (such as transportation and travel related) in short-term 2 weeks, and use them in medium-term 2 months. The learned word combination makes a sentence, memorizes all the words in 4 months, and reaches the level of being able to write a short essay.

No execution method is set

The implementation method is one of the key points that must be taken into account when setting annual goals. If there is no goal for the implementation method, it is basically the same as a school without a syllabus. It is good for students to study freely, but it may be disorderly and implementation. Still can't figure it out.

For example: how to learn 6,000 new words in 4 months? After adding the execution method, it can be: use commuting time to listen to the words and example sentences of the two topics 3 times every day for the first two weeks + read along, and then dictate once before going to bed. After 2 weeks, find a day to test by yourself until you are completely familiar... And so on. The above methods combine listening, follow-through, dictation, and exams. The more specific, the more you can help yourself establish a complete direction and process.

No review mechanism set up

After setting goals, you should also set up a review mechanism for these goals. Otherwise, it is easy to gradually forget your goals because of human laziness, or just do it for the sake of achievement .

For example: it is assumed that 6,000 new words have been recited from January to April, but it is over after the memorization is completed. There is no mechanism for doing tests or allowing oneself to learn output (such as sentence making, writing essays, and talking in English, etc.), which is equivalent to Because you have absolutely no idea whether these words can actually be used by yourself?

Of course, the review mechanism can also be to find friends to review each other and share their experience in the form of book clubs. For this part, you can refer to the next article.

No reward system set

Rewards are not 100% necessary, but for those who want to develop good habits or break bad habits, having a reward system can help strengthen the motivation to continue to execute, just like adding fuel to your car , no The reward mechanism is like getting a high score in an exam (high achievement rate and effectiveness), but not even an award, ranking, or a compliment. Over time, it will lose more and more motivation.

An example of a reward mechanism, such as: set up to memorize 1,200 new words in January, and learn at least 1~2 times a week Output: write 2~3 sentences, 1 short paragraph, use newly learned words Talk to foreign friends... Wait, if there are any mistakes, you can immediately correct and re-understand the word. After each production is completed, you can watch one more English album that you like, or drink one more drink in the week. Through the review and reward mechanism, on the one hand, you can confirm that you have memorized these words, and on the other hand, you can regain energy after a week of tiredness, and continue to work hard for the next goal.

- To be continued.
