Education is a trap? The confused life of young Taiwanese
[I have to kill myself every day to live]
This is the sentiment shared by a Taiwanese university girl in the article " In Taiwan, being able to study is actually a trap " on Dcard, and it is also the reason why I wrote this article, because the content and response of that article, many of us young people in Taiwan Generations have experienced or are experiencing.
"After you can study, you will get a lot of praise. After you have the halo of a famous school, it seems that your life will be bright and smooth."
"But you don't know that this is the abnormal expectation of this society, and it is not what you want. But by the time you realize it, it's too late"
The internet short drama "Mr.Bartender S1 Ep2: Education Is Actually a Trap" is an internet short film produced by Xu Jiakai, an up-and-coming director who is a young Taiwanese. It tells about the problems that most young people in Taiwan encounter. Social education instills that only by studying hard can we stand out and succeed. But when we pass through layers of tests and competitions and enter a school that everyone admires and respects, can we still make our own decisions in life?
I am a Taiwanese young man in the eighth grade (that is, the post-90s generation). It has been a while since I left school and joined the society. I have also experienced such troubles and thoughts. Even after I left the society, such problems still exist, and I He believes that this is not only a matter of education, but also a value issue of the whole society and culture.
social expectations
During the schooling stage, we worked hard to get good grades, competed with each other, passed the various examinations, and finally arrived at our ideal school, but we didn’t seriously think about what we wanted, so that when we entered the “social expectation” Great school, great department, we seem helpless, as if you don't know where this ship is going, and you're still on board, because you have to keep up, beat so many competitors and get the When you get to the ticket for this ship, it is not that you can give up if you give up. You have to continue sailing, and you are not sure if this is what you want.
Education production line
Education in Taiwan seems to exist for the sake of work. We study and take exams for the final diploma, and the function of the diploma is to find a job. However, in such a "production process", in order to produce a large number of talents, the Ministry of Education Widely set up universities (production lines), so that every "product" (student) has the "certification" (diploma) of the university, but the school is not a factory, and the students are not products. We excessively produce so-called talents, but do not engage in Knowing where these talents are used, and students are busy cooperating with such a series of production SOPs, many people never understand why they study, nor what they should do in the future, but follow everyone with the flow, and everyone will follow when they go to university. In the university, everyone went to the research institute and followed the entrance examination. By the time they found out, they had spent most of their time there.
fear of choice
Perhaps the educational system and social culture are a trap, but in the final analysis, shouldn't we choose the society we live in? I think the answer is no. There are still many students in Taiwan who can find their own goals and directions, and continue to move towards their goals regardless of the eyes of others.
After I left the society, I met a friend who graduated with a master's degree and asked me that he was about to graduate. The professor told him, "Choose your first job well", but at the same time he told him "you can try a lot", which caused him to be a little bit confused. Confused, I don't know whether to "find a good job" or "try more" in the next step. I found in such a question that what he wants is an answer, because if you choose the wrong one, you will probably fail, so the situation of finding the only solution in the multiple-choice question is one of the problems I observed in Taiwan's education. We are studying At this stage, we will be required to learn the "correct answers" of textbooks or knowledge, but when we go out of society, there are often no so-called "standard answers". To try and fail, feel lost.
Under the education of correct answers, many students feel that they have no choice, but when we can choose, how many people dare to choose that different decision, most of them may follow the footsteps and expectations of the public out of fear of failure , rather than trying different options.
Learn to grow first
There is no right or wrong and no standard in the world. The reason why human beings can develop to the present results depends on curiosity and experimentation. Even if they try, they often fail. Science is like this, and life is like this. No one of us knows what the future will be. What happens, but if you don't try it, you won't be able to find an answer, or a different possibility. Reading is also. If you don't learn knowledge and cultivate logical thinking, how can we try to find a better solution? Maybe due to reality and society, we have to do things we don’t like, but in addition to helplessness, this process may be more beneficial. People will choose the best option for themselves. Even if it seems helpless on the surface, there are often benefits behind Judgment is greater than harm, although I am also in this confused era, but like the night before dawn, the chaotic status quo will eventually clear the sky, and we must learn to grow in this darkness, the growth process may be very painful, but Maybe after this experience, we will be stronger.
postscript
I wrote this article for a long time but not too long, because I really don’t know how to express it, or I am also one of the authorities, so I can’t say too many constructive solutions, but because I have experienced These, although looking at it now, the confusion at that time may be trivial, because there are more problems after growing up, and it may be better to understand why the elder society asks students in that way, but the problems encountered in each period are cut into The points are completely different, so I think there may not be a standard answer to solve this, but I hope that through more discussion and concern, everyone will be a little concerned about such educational and social issues, thank you for reading.
