In 1989, the reason why tens of thousands of students participated in the commemoration of Hu Yaobang, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, was by no means a minority of students and intellectuals who had false illusions and cognitions about Western-style democracy and were inspired by Europe and the United States. , but a gathering of ideas with the people as the main body and freedom as the carrier. People, no matter what history, culture, country, place, or leader they are in, have the right to say anything about the fate of the community.

"In a people's republic with amnesia, it is dangerous to make memories. Even just a public act of remembrance can reveal just how fragile that state's carefully constructed official historic edifice is. For most people, tanks and bullets rob people of their sense of security, make people think that they can only show themselves if they stop talking about the past, and instead support material interests and become silent accomplices in the cover-up. 』- Lin Mulian, "Return to Tiananmen Square"

Today is the 32nd year of the "June 4 Incident". The historical trauma of that year is still a forbidden word in mainland China. When 64 becomes 535, it means that history has not been rehabilitated and examined. However, the spirit of fighting for democracy and freedom in Tiananmen Square will not be completely forgotten or disappeared because of the official "crab". Instead, more 535s will appear to highlight the desire and nature of human beings to pursue freedom.

In recent years, social hawks and extremism on both sides of the strait have been in power, and there have been many hatreds and confrontations. In particular, the Hong Kong anti-extradition incident in 2019 has caused the distance between Taiwan, Hong Kong and the mainland to become more distant and mutual distrust. How to resolve? How to move towards peace and rehabilitate June Fourth may be an opportunity.

From 32 years ago to the present, President Ma has continuously suggested that the mainland should face this history sincerely, believing that only in this way can the two sides of the Taiwan Strait draw closer to each other. Naturally, the two sides of the strait may have different imaginations and definitions of democracy. However, from Mencius to Huang Zongxi's thought that "the people are precious and the ruler is light", as well as the Revolution of 1911, the May Fourth Movement, and even the early development history of the Communist Party, it can be clearly seen that, The consistent pursuit of democracy.

The five characters "Serve the people" are still clearly visible outside the Xinhua Gate in Zhongnanhai.

From Hu Yaobang and Zhao Ziyang to Liu Xiaobo and Xu Zhangrun, the spirit of liberalization is at the top and at the grassroots level; in the mainland and in Taiwan, it has not been quenched by authority. The pursuit of freedom is human nature, and the people are the first. The value of this is the meaning of the existence of the community. Rehabilitating the June 4th Movement will only be the first step, and restoring the people-oriented spirit is the only way to revitalize China.

This is the only way to commemorate the people's heroes who were in Tiananmen.
