It's Hirokazu-eda's new work is a Japanese-style movie with no Korean features at all. But this is irrelevant, the author's strong character, on the contrary, can highlight the advantage of Hirokazu Koreeda who is not limited by geographical areas. The location and characters can be replaced with any place, but this does not affect the conveyance of emotion, and the idea and profoundness can still be slowly expressed through the light and shadow of the story and the flashing of neon lights. I am still looking forward to his attempt to transcend the norm, like Kazuo Ishiguro, so that people all over the world can understand his films.
This is a disguise called light blue warmth, an episode and a light road trip, using such warmth to confuse the audience, it seems to tell a somewhat sad but beautiful and warm story, in fact, the changes in the characters in the story are extremely cliché , there are no insightful fables, no cruel directing to fragile humanity, no sharp rhetorical questions. Want to use such a simple sentence "Thank you for being born" to solve the entanglement of abandonment and abandonment? A bit too casual and lazy. Not to say that summing up with a slogan is a wrong choice, but choosing to end with a simple taste of this is the director's unavoidable sin.
It was Hirokazu Koreeda who lost his sharp edge, giving almost everyone a gentle home. This ending is too perfect. It seems that all problems have been completely solved, but it makes me feel a twisted "toughness". The plot "toughly" asked the police officer to adopt the child, so that the meaning of "being qualified to be the child's parents" disappeared at the beginning; the plot "toughly" made the two parents who were supposed to adopt the child seem like nothing happened, and continued with Yu Xing Stay connected and give your audience comfort.
In the movie, there is a very romantic scene, let's talk about its merits first.
This scene dialogue in the Ferris wheel is a very clever scene choice. Against the light blue background, the music flows slowly and pours gently, the scene is closed, only they can hear the dialogue, but it is open and can see the scenery outside the window. Because it is on the Ferris wheel, the background is constantly shaking, and there is a sound of shaking and friction, which balances the static monotony of the simple dialogue between two people, and there is movement in the static, which constitutes a vivid and romantic lyrical picture. The two reconcile with themselves in this dialogue, one is their understanding of their mother's abandonment, and the other is their forgiveness for being a bad mother.
However, due to this gentle simplicity, the power of the entire dialogue seems light and powerless, reconciliation is too easy, and the original cruelty of reality has been wiped out, leaving only an almost ideal romance.
This is not the Hirokazu-eda I know. The sea breeze, the waves, the pale blue sky, the sea stretching to the far horizon, in this background, the core of the movie is barren and dry.
