Laughing Bodhisattva

This is a picture of the Laughing Bodhisattva I posted on the door of my room. The photo was cut from a monthly calendar. Each page of this calendar is a different Laughing Bodhisattva. With this Laughing Faced Bodhisattva posted on the door of the house, every day I go in and out of the house, the Bodhisattva smiles at me. I was sitting in the room and as long as the room door was open, I could see the Buddha smiling at me.

I have lived to be in my early seventies, and honestly, there are not many people who have sincerely smiled at me in this life. When I was a student, my parents were kind to me, but they never relaxed their academic requirements. If you do well in the exam, your parents think it should be. Even if there is encouragement, it will stop. If I don't get good grades in the exam, of course, it won't look good on me.

I have worked all the way for more than 40 years since I left the society, and I hardly remember any boss who ever had a smile on my face. Just like when I was a student, the job should be done on schedule; the boss would just give me a look and scold me when there was a problem with the job. For more than 40 years, I can hardly remember any warm or encouraging words from any boss, and naturally it is rare to see a smiling face.

I have read a book called "One Minute Manager"[1][2]. The main idea is that to be an excellent manager is very simple, that is, to do three things to your subordinates: set goals in one minute; praise subordinates in one minute The right place; a minute to communicate with the subordinate to blame the wrong place. This book is a bestseller all over the world, but like I said above, my own experience is that we get more blame than praise in our lives.

So friends, when your family, children, friends, and subordinates have done the right thing, please don't be stingy with praise and smiles. I don't want them to be like me, until they reach their twilight years, they can only put a smiling Bodhisattva on the door to comfort me.
