Advice is better than comment

When a supervisor is asking for your advice on something, do you offer advice? or comment? What's the difference?

In the Hong Kong movie "Cold War 2", the male protagonist, Police Commissioner Liu Jiehui (Aaron Kwok), asked his subordinates for advice when he was facing a difficult situation. The content is:

"Please listen to my question clearly next time! I want advice , not comments !

This is indeed one of the most common situations in the workplace.

Every time a supervisor or colleague seeks advice from everyone in a meeting, they often get more comments than advice!

The difference is:

1) Comments are just to put forward their own opinions, or comments on the situation, but there is no real action plan to solve the problem or improve the situation. Advice is to give a clear solution and processing method, to assist the person who asked the question, and to follow the direction.

2) It is easy to give a comment, because just comment or express your opinion. But providing advice is difficult, because you have to think about how to work out ways to improve the situation in a difficult situation.

3) Comments seem to be insightful and make everyone feel that they are helping to solve problems, but in fact there are not many clear benefits. Advise may sound insignificant, but it is indeed something to try when there are so many things to do.

In every meeting, I often hear someone talking loudly and acting like the person who understands the problem best, but when asking him to come up with a real solution, he is often reckless and reluctant to give a clear answer. Answer. At first, it also seems that the person understands the situation well enough to point out a lot of questions. But after a period of time, I found that apart from finding bugs, there were no constructive remarks and no feasible measures.

To be honest, if there is no way to solve the problem, it is not a problem at all!

I hope that I can play the role of giving advice more often in my life or in the workplace, rather than a moan who can only comment on everything but do nothing.
