Flos Selected Books - "Introduction to Observation on the Road"
Origin
The curator of this book was reading a paper book and purchased it at Yiquan Bookstore . This is a veritable label killer.
Observing on the Road In Hong Kong, what I know best is that someone has carefully studied the street signs in Hong Kong. Others, I am also trying to find related works. As for myself, I used another identity to observe the road for more than four years. During those four years, I lived in a world called road maintenance, and carefully paid attention to the road and the road I was responsible for from the perspective of always looking for road problems. Drainage cover and other street furniture.
Today, I have been away from that world for about five months and almost half a year, and I began to look up to observe my city. When I found this and other books about cities in One Punch, I was so excited to get started right away. Do you think I will be bored because I have "watched the road" for four years? I would say that the more books I read about City Observation and Architectural Observation, the more angle I see my city. The city will be more colorful and more three-dimensional, why do you get bored?
Content and experience
This is a collection of interviews and essays divided into four chapters. The first chapter is to set the tone, which includes Akasegawahara Hei and Fujimori Terunobu talking about their experiences as observers on the road, and indirectly gives some basic definitions of "observation on the road". The second chapter is a collection of conversations between Nanshinbo, Akasegawahara, and Fujimori Terinobu. After the arrangement is defined, the reader can gain a wider understanding in an easier way. During the conversation, the research and records made by observers on different roads are discussed, and readers can choose the areas they want to know more about. Based on my personal fondness for architecture and my careful attention to the road, I am most interested in Fujimori Teranobu and Hayashi Joji .
In Chapter 3 , field notes from various observers begin to appear. I recommend that you read the entirety of it roughly once, to have a good understanding of the observations you are making, and then peruse the observers of your choice. The main reason is that although there are various sects and observation targets in this circle, they are closely related so they will influence each other. By understanding all of them once, you can get a more three-dimensional understanding of the observers you are interested in. I was impressed by Mr. Lin Zhanger's in-depth research on Qu Gai, and reconsidered the entry point of looking at Qu Gai in the past, and when I walked on the road, the city seemed to have a new color. In the past, I held a bunch of standard drawings in my hand and looked at Qu Gai with an extremely technical eye, but now I have a layer of aesthetic and playful filters.
The last chapter talks about the eyes of things, about museum paintings and cartoons. It seems to be irrelevant, and most of them observe things from a subtle angle. Museum painting is a careful observation of animals and plants, and some records of animals, plants and people's behavior; Kao Xianxue is to observe urban buildings and people's clothing behavior to record. Such an analogy is relevant. The same is true of comics. Good comics are based on deep observation of people's lives and social issues, and relationships are also established.
Although there is a bit of a gap, because John Berger looks at the world with artistic and emotional eyes, which is the opposite of road observation. But that's why the book Horizons of Seeing came to my mind. Although it is more artistic, the observation of light and shadow and color can also affect the interest of observation on the road. Therefore, one more angle is also unavoidable.
postscript
After a chain of events, many people chanted their love for the city. But many people are still watching the phone in a hurry, and it seems that there are not many people who will really watch the city carefully. In the book's FB group, Taiwanese are also more active, and I hope that more Hong Kong people will join in on the road to observe.
I am also very sure that someone will move out of work, so I really recommend you to take a look at Yimnu's sharing.
If you really like a place, going to work and loving and documenting a place will not hinder you.
Although I admire the records of Fujimori Teranobu and Hayashi Joji, what moved me the most was Izumi's action. While practicing as a dentist, I can also collect building debris from everywhere, and I also clean up the debris and transport and store it. These are all out of his love for old buildings and a desire to preserve their stories.
Like my work? Don't forget to support and clap, let me know that you are with me on the road of creation. Keep this enthusiasm together!
