[Film Review] "The Love I Didn't Talk About" People always only see the side they want to see
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen such a well-choreographed Taiwanese movie romance. Even if there are some shortcomings, it’s basically all flaws. It can be seen that the director and editing have put a lot of effort into this aspect, and there is not much contradiction in the connection of the plot. , the cutscenes are also very smooth, especially not deliberately selling dog blood or preaching (until the point), making the overall viewing process very comfortable (you have to get through the opening), I will explain it in several parts below. this movie:
The splicing method
The presentation at the beginning is actually very interesting. Basically, it does not follow the general narrative method. Because this film is a romance drama, not a suspense and reasoning drama, so even if the flashback method is used, it will try to be carried out in linear time, "recalling the moment" or "the past". The event" also makes a difference for the audience. But the technique of this film is to use the interweaving of broken fragments (I actually like this part), but basically most people will feel that the opening of the first paragraph is a bit messy, as long as it lasts for 15~20 minutes, the whole viewing process will be very difficult. comfortable.
But in fact, I personally think that the fragmentation of the previous part is very important. If you remember Nolan's "Memory Puzzle", it basically uses the fragments intertwined by the male protagonist's fragmentation of memory time (loss of long-term memory function) to piece him together. For the understanding of the world, so the director let us try to think and understand the film from the perspective of the male protagonist. The same is true of "The Love I Didn't Talk About". We can imagine one thing. Suppose you are a fan of a certain Youtuber. If you follow this Youtuber's IG, Vlog, and FB every day, do you really know this Youtuber? Or in the hundreds of videos he uploaded to make up his real life, real character, and real emotions?
The interlacing and fragmentation of these clips makes us constantly think and make up our minds at the beginning of the film. What happened after Guo Qinqin and Zhao Shuwei traveled to Japan? Why promised to go to Japan but blocked Zhao Shuwei in the current time and space? Why should Nan Zhiyang care about the farewell ceremony? Is Brother Nan a Youtuber who specializes in solving emotional problems? Then, when you are about to be extremely irritable, these broken pieces begin to enter a linear narrative mode, and suddenly there is a feeling of entering a comfort zone in your mood, allowing you to enjoy the next movie more calmly. I like this way of meditation, and it is easier to immerse myself in the story, and I also understand more that the broken fragments at the beginning are not only necessary for the plot, but also help the audience to enter the plot more easily.
The simple story
No matter how complex the world is, those who want to tell stories must simplify complex stories, because in just two hours, you not only have to convince the audience to understand the structure of your story, but also make them agree that such a story is reasonable, and acceptable. The stories of each character in this film are simple (but not simple behind), and these stories are things you can hear, see, and even encounter in your daily life. There are no too twisty and bizarre parts, and the director did not give us any difficult problems, asking us to think about life or any open problems encountered by the protagonist in the play, because in the narrative of the film, everyone has been reconciled.
Maybe some people don't like this part, because the topic is not deep enough (Happy Ending), and it clearly points out the problem but gently puts it down, but I have to say, this is a romantic comedy, a commercial movie, and its main axis is not He wants to give you too deep thinking, but for a popcorn commercial comedy romance, he points out these "simple" problems in life. The "simple" here is not simple once we think about it, but But it's life-like enough, so simple that it may be what happened to me, neighbors, colleagues, and friends, and if you think about it carefully, are these life experiences very fragmentary, just like the beginning, you heard regrets between friends , lovelorn, or family problems, etc., are like discontinuous fragments, you can't make up the whole picture, but you will make up your own imagination of the event, and then make your own judgment, even if the truth of the matter is not so, You won't get too deep into it either.
Just like the story characters in the film, the unbridled Zhao Shuwei did not send a message, the arrogant Guo Qinqin pretended to be strong and moved forward in fact, but Nan Ge, who was good at solving other people's problems, couldn't face his inner cowardice. People always use too many emotions to pack themselves and disguise themselves, but don't face the real self well. Is it because they are afraid of being hurt by others? Or are you afraid that you are not who you were before?
I have always liked Guo Qinqin's expression in the play, she wants her boyfriend to walk home with her, buy salted chicken together, go home and eat salted chicken on the sofa and watch a movie together. How simple and life-like is this wish. Sometimes the movie does not need to have any great dreams and ambitions. The simple presentation of life, as long as it is in place, is still a good movie. The advantage of this film is that the themes it revolves around are simple, clear, and easy to understand. In addition, the director did not deviate from the topic and did not preach. Even the reconciliation of the characters in the play is in line with the human design, which makes The viewing process of the movie is very comfortable, and there is no deviation from the theme (except sometimes Guo Qinqin's cry will make me a little bit out of the drama, but this is not a crime of war, Ai Yiliang still plays very well).
3. Overall presentation
Toby's version of "Spider-Man 2" begins by using the synopsis of the comics to come to the cast and crew version, which will not make people feel bored watching these leading actors and director subtitles, but also can review the clips of the previous plot. So that the new movie viewers will not be confused, but the first subtitle of "The Love I Didn't Talk About" uses the typing effect to match the FB layout is more interesting, because it not only activates the opening sequence, but also cleverly combines The way of presentation of the clips mentioned in the "first point", the packaging of the whole film is not just a simple story, the director has carefully thought about all the pictures that can be presented to the audience. This is not only a simple symmetry, but a You can feel how sincere the details are presented in this film.
Not to mention that the characters in it all have a certain meaning, and there will be no unimportant characters with too many scenes. If the shaping of the characters needs to be reconciled, there will be more shots, but it will not be excessive. The clip of parents talking about divorce but returning to the dining table, the in-depth conversation between the noodle stall sister and the outspoken bottom-level employee, etc. There are too many scenes that can be used as a comparison, so that you can understand the clip of not really facing and communicating with others behind the scenes. Understanding, misunderstanding, etc., are constantly repeated in the film, which also reflects our real life. The person who loves the most may also be the person who misunderstands the most. We only care that others don’t understand us, but we forget that we have never understood ourselves, and we also need to communicate and have a dialogue with ourselves .
Finally, it is highly recommended. If you want to watch a popcorn movie with a little depth and comedy love, "The Love I Didn't Talk About" will not disappoint you, or even exceed your expectations!
It's a pity in the PS drama that the characters are not discussed in depth, especially Nan Ge who is the protagonist. This part is really a pity. But this is because the script was originally intended to be made into an album, but after it was made into a film, many parts had to be deleted and edited. If it can be presented like an album, I think the description of the details will be better.
