All anxiety stems from the mind's imagination of the past or future!
In life, it is wisdom, not intelligence, that can completely solve problems.
If we look closely, we will find that all anxiety stems from the mind's imagination of the past or the future.
I didn’t do well in the last exam, and I was criticized by my teacher and scolded by my parents, so I would fall into anxiety before every exam; I had to interview next week, and I was worried about failing the interview, so I was anxious; , causing anxiety; my sales performance is not good, I am afraid of being called by the leader, anxious; the department is going to lay off staff, worried that my name is on the layoff list, anxious; I am not feeling well here or there, anxious; I am worried about not being able to handle the family well , relationship between children and friends, anxiety...
Every day, from opening our eyes in the morning to going to bed at night, almost anytime, anywhere, we are troubled by various thoughts, arising from external or internal causes, which breed anxiety.
However, in fact, it is not the exams, interviews, assessments, performance, physical discomfort, emotional problems, etc. that make us anxious, but the fantasies and associations, especially negative fantasies and associations, of the mind to those objective facts. We can also understand that all anxiety stems from the tug of war caused by uncertainty about the unknown and wanting to get rid of this uncertainty.
If we observe carefully, we will find that anxiety always appears in the state of "random thinking".
I participated in several English debating competitions in college. Before the competition, I was often anxious and nervous, afraid that I would not perform well and that I would drag the whole team down. But when I told myself that I had to be prepared no matter what, the anxiety disappeared during that whole-hearted engagement. The next time you feel anxious, you find yourself “living in the future”—worrying, fearing that you will make mistakes and underperforming. As soon as this thought appeared, I devoted myself to the preparation process, and the anxiety disappeared automatically... After repeating this many times, I would find it very interesting. It turned out that the anxiety was reminding me that "I don't live in present".
There are countless examples of this in life. Anytime we feel anxiety arises, as long as we learn to be aware, to be aware of whether our mind is in the imagination of the past or the future, and then realize that it is time to invest in the present, once we are truly engaged, the anxiety will naturally disappear. .
Many times, for those things we don't want, "resisting" and "rejecting" are not the most ideal solutions. On the contrary, the more we "resist" and "repel" those things we do not want, the more we are "attracting" those that don't want.
In fact, there is no need to fight anxiety at all, just turn to the present moment when you are aware of it.
From a certain level, only people with a strong "self" concept will often feel anxious, which Buddhism calls "self-clinging".
Like my experience in college, because always worrying about "me" -- worrying about "me" not doing well; "me" not doing well; how "me" would fail...why? These worries are because of this "me".
Our identification with thoughts created by the mind creates an illusion of "me". To identify with the mind means to identify with the "self" or "ego". The "self" is limited, and it is precisely the source of all contradictions and divisions. Everything the mind responds to is an accumulation of "knowns". "Known" is limited and limited, and from the moment we identify with the thought of the mind, we have been limited by that thought.
As soon as some inner qualities of the "self" want to expand outward, or when something outside wants to enter or break the walls of the "self" consciousness, the "self" will be alerted immediately, causing worry, fear, Fear and anxiety.
In fact, "I" is not a limited collection of concepts, ideas, or thoughts that the mind has accumulated, but a process of experiencing the present moment. The "I" is the process by which the universal life energy participates in the present, it is always one with the present, and always participates with curiosity in everything - change, play, enjoyment, flow... It does not differentiate, it is infinite and whole. "Everything is a game for 'I' to entertain myself!" Where does worry, fear, fear and anxiety come from?!
Anxiety is inevitable as long as the mind dominates. In this case, what we can do is not to fight the mind, but to observe the trajectory of the activity of the mind. This is the only way to avoid anxiety.
Try it out, it's a very effective method. It's a very interesting thing to be very aware of, to see the problems and illusions that the mind creates, to see how it creates darkness, pain, and suddenly overwhelms this "me".
Finally, please remember to be grateful. It is "anxiety", the "good friend" that never leaves, reminds us to live in the moment, remember to be grateful for it, and be grateful for it anytime, anywhere.
"Trust in the unknown." That's the whole mystery of life.
