Anytime in the workplace - "There is a chance when you talk about it"
Small background in the workplace: related to the construction industry
The dry and wet separation sliding door of the shower room should be a three-piece glass door according to the picture, but during the actual installation on site, it is always felt that three pieces of glass are a bit too much for the narrow bathroom space; although three pieces are not too different from two pieces. , but considering the gap in its overall appearance (beauty), I still try to suggest that the owner change the glass door from three to two.
There are two management units, A and B, under the owner. The dominant power is in the hands of the A unit, and the B unit is auxiliary; in the case of the execution of the case, if you need to ask the owner for instructions/clarification/even change the construction content, you must first Consult with Unit A, which will transfer it to Unit B for evaluation, and then reply to Unit A for final decision.
As a result, the proposal to change the number of glass doors was immediately referred to Unit A, and then transferred to Unit B for preliminary assessment; however, Unit B did not agree with the proposal, and replied that they did not agree to the change on the grounds of “construction according to the drawings”. , Unit A also agrees to Unit B's reply.
Since I joined the team, I have actually noticed that every time a problem needs to be communicated or coordinated with Unit A, most of them tend to rely on the opinions of Unit B, and almost follow the instructions of Unit B. One is that Unit A is worried about rashly changing the construction content, and if there is a situation during the inspection after completion, it may be reviewed; the other is that if it is really necessary to change, it must be approved by Unit B, otherwise Unit A will not agree in principle.
This sounds a bit like putting the cart before the horse, because unit A already has decision-making power itself, and it can even decide on its own without the need for unit B, but it still needs to be like this. To put it bluntly, it may be a concern about the attribution of responsibility, and unit B needs to be "endorsed" together. (?).
Be cautious about Unit A? Or for "self-protection" considerations? I feel that I have no position to comment too much. After all, "people are not in their place", and different positions have different considerations . As often heard, "when you change your position, you change your head." I just feel that when making decisions, the attitude towards things needs to be responsible, rather than the "ostrich mentality", thinking that if you don't do it (change), you will not be wrong, especially for those who have the dominant power.
Although "construction according to drawings" is an important indicator in the industry, at the design stage, it is still a work on paper at this time. It is reasonable for the team to occasionally fail to take into account in the design. After the actual construction on site, Wouldn't it be nice to have feedback from the construction team to adjust and optimize the overall design?
When the owner came to the site to inspect the construction status, I, who was originally accompanied by the owner and the relevant personnel of Unit A, had the idea of directly explaining to the owner to change the number of glass sliding doors, and he hesitated while walking. In the end, should I ask - "Should I report it directly to the owner?", "Is this considered a leap?" and other thoughts flooded in my mind.
Until the site inspection is over, when the units are ready to disband and leave, "Are there any other matters to add?" - the owner asked; "If you are not in a hurry to leave, I would like to talk about the glass sliding door.. ." (raises hand).
Someone once said to me - "If you don't say something now, you probably won't say it later (the time has passed)" ;
The glass sliding door was finally agreed to be changed to two pieces. Although it seems that it is a leap of faith to directly communicate with the owner by skipping the two units A and B, but at the moment, I realize that if both parties are moving towards a consensus that is conducive to optimization, that is the key. You don't need to pay too much attention to the upper and lower classes at all times, but this creates a hindrance. Learning how to communicate in parallel should be more efficient.
Regardless of workplace or life, "there is a chance" is true, and many times it is only a few seconds of courage .
