Where should the equality of men and women we pursue come from?
A friend asked me:
Is equality between men and women needed? How to be equal? Is it equality or inequality now?
I am also constantly thinking about this issue. The thoughts I have been thinking about are always developing and advancing with twists and turns. I also have my own views on this issue.
Since the vigorous Rice Rabbit Movement, I have been paying attention to the topic of sexual assault. In fact, the essence of "sexual assault" has an element of inequality, because it occurs because of inequality of power and the occurrence of incidents. The difference in the price paid by the two parties, the socially unequal evaluation system, and the disparity in power are caused. "Sexual assault" includes not only the assault scene that occurred at that time, but also the secondary harm caused by a series of social environments that the victim endured later.
Where there is secondary injury, there is inequality, which actually exists more broadly in social concepts and customs. And people, men and women, who are deeply influenced by social concepts and customs, are unaware of it.
So are we equal now, or are we unequal?
If viewed from the mainstream level of the whole society, it is unequal. If you look at this issue from an individual perspective, it needs to be another matter.
For individuals, for example, for me, from birth to now, I have been trying to pursue a life that is not attached to anyone, whether it is spiritual or physical (economic), although it has not been fully achieved. Financially independent, but always thinking about supporting myself and living a better life with my own hands in the future. If everyone thinks so, I can boldly say that everyone who builds his own empire of life with his own hands is an equal in society.
But there are other people in the society. Even though they are economically independent, they are still spiritually impoverished. Their personalities are completely dependent on others. , melancholy, anxiety, doubt, anger, ecstasy, sadness, etc. This kind of situation actually exists widely in society: parents regard their children as the continuation of life and control everything; husbands and wives are bossy, lamenting and regretting; men and women give unequally, blindly ask for or depend on...
Therefore, even if the conditions in society are sufficient to give men and women or anyone an equal space for development, it depends on whether individuals give themselves equal opportunities, whether they allow themselves to become a team by themselves and recruit horses for their own minds.
How to be equal?
In fact, I have basically answered this question in the last part, that is, the personality is not dependent and the economy is independent.
But this is only a requirement of equality for individuals.
What are the demands of society? In the traditional view, it is actually more partial to men. Society requires women to have "virginity", to be as white as jade, and to be pure, but in fact, it can be translated into vernacular: women can't have a relationship with men casually. Going back to ancient times, the source of "chasteness" is that the husband's property needs children to inherit, so it is necessary to ensure that the children born by the wife are the biological children of the husband, so women's chastity must be strictly controlled so that the property can be successfully inherited to the biological children. on the head.
After understanding the origin of this concept, are you full of doubts about the concept of "virginity"? However, the premise of this concept is that men are the main labor productivity, and women are the dependencies of men, so chastity is reasonable for a society dominated by men.
But in today's society, putting aside some women who are willing to become male vassals, such as women who aim to become a prince's princess, a domineering president's little loli, etc., can be another matter. If the society puts chastity above any It is obviously unfair on the head of women. After all, the status of women is also improving, and there are many women who are financially independent. Therefore, it is not desirable to only require women to keep their chastity. For the sake of equality, men should also be required to do so. Keep your virginity (this is, of course, just a joke). For example, when a sexual assault case occurs, I hope to be less harsh on women, such as accusing them of being naked and misbehaving.
In fact, the concept of inequality is everywhere. In many cases, taking marriage as an example, the male party has extremely high requirements for dowry, and requires the male to have a car and a house before the female can get married. In this process, the male family pays more money, even the male parents. Pay more. This is actually a very long and unequal road. Women are attached to men, and men are attached to their parents. In this family environment and cultural concepts, it is difficult for children to have the idea of striving for equality. In general, they will choose to follow the crowd in the quagmire of concepts. Very few will break the taboo of the concept. It takes courage to fight against social concepts. After all, the minority is against the majority, and the power disparity is clearly visible.
This requires more people to break through the old concept, practice it personally, and strive for the realization of equality between themselves and others.
Is equality between men and women needed?
It depends on personal will. However, a healthy person should pursue an equal society and have equal rights with others. Just like two children, both want to get two apples of the same size, even if the two apples are not the same size, they have an equal chance to get the largest apple for themselves, such as through an equal chance competition, or a child For some reason gave the big apple to another kid...
One of the most annoying ways is for a parent to come up and say to one of the kids:
"You are the elder sister, you should let the younger brother."
"You are a boy, you should let the girl."
Finally, to answer the question, where should the equality of men and women we pursue come from?
You should have an answer in your heart.
