The meager freedom and expensive uniform I had in high school

I went to a private high school in Keelung. Due to the background of the founder, every time the election came, the past tutors would be given the task of calling the students' homes to call for votes, and I always felt that the school had a strong political party color. It's one thing to make a phone call. I had a conversation with a teacher on the phone before, and found that he also had a little interest in using this opportunity to inquire about the students' political party preferences. what am i saying? Of course, in his sentence "If you don't vote for A, who are you going to vote for?", he answered, "Huh~ I don't know yet." He didn't want to reveal any rumors.

As a general student in a complete middle school, that is, a high school student who is generally preparing to study for university, what is special is that I joined a class that combines the social group and the nature group. The classmates are all Students who rank at the top of the school in admissions and academic year, and I am one of the few social groups in my class.

forced thinking math class

Entering a complete middle school that advertises the admission rate, there are no unrealistic expectations for various extracurricular activities. The first impact that needs to be faced is the teaching method adopted by the math teacher. He only explained the principles, and the handouts he made by himself included extended topics that required different solutions. He directly asked students who had grasped the concepts of the principles to raise their hands to the stage, demonstrate the problem-solving on the blackboard, and the rest became homework for the students. Only in the few difficult or multi-solved problems, the teacher will personally go into battle. Therefore, in our mathematics class, the most spent part is watching students solve problems, the teacher confirms the process and logic on the side, followed by the test, and finally the principle part that the teacher explains alone.

There are students in the class who take classes in the Taipei famous teacher cram school. Of course, most of the students will be consulted by the students. The interesting thing is that not all the students go to the cram school, or they all go to the same cram school. You can often see different solutions on the blackboard. This was very interesting to me, who dropped out of various cram schools and decided to study by myself. I saw that there is not only one way to think about the solution. In addition, voluntary problem solving is also included in the results, which naturally produces a certain degree of healthy competition.

However, this kind of teaching method, as mentioned at the beginning, is a shock to most students. In the first year of high school, a classmate even formed a dismissal organization, trying to persuade everyone to sign up and report the incompetence of the math teacher to the Dean of Education. The argument at the time was roughly that teachers who adopted such a laissez-faire approach were derelict in their duties and equivalent to abandoning their students. Now that I think about it, why is it that students who have adapted to the rigid teaching method in the middle school stage cannot accept other possibilities? It was only after one or two semesters of high school that my classmates got used to it, and I gradually felt the benefits of this learning method. After each independent solution, I always feel that I am smart and good, and have a great sense of accomplishment.

The freedom of blank classes

From the first year of high school to the third year of high school, my social group partners and I have always had free time called blank classes, going to the small cafe to read, chatting in the garden, using the computer classroom or biology laboratory for self-study, and going to exercise. The school's idea at the time was to give students with better grades some extra space to see if we could make good use of this time and improve our grades in future studies.

From the school's point of view, of course, going to exercise is not included in their plan, let alone chatting and frolic in the biology laboratory. Now that I think about it, the school stipulated that we should learn to write web pages in the first year of high school, and we should silently expect that we can dig. Identify the potential of a particular classmate to write programs. As everyone knows, because of the web class in high school, although I learned introductory skills, I don't want to touch any web production in the next college year. Everything in high school is so stressful, and everything about it, in college, you want to throw it as far away as possible.

Of course, blank classes became our respite in those days. In the first year of high school, the whole class could have blank classes together. You could see the boys running to the playground with balls. There were only a few social groups who could have blank classes. We sit in the laboratory or garden with our textbooks, pretending to be reading, but we are actually talking about May 43. These behaviors, whether playing or chatting, are unacceptable to the dean of the school, and the pictures and voices of his roaring and cursing can be easily imagined until now.

After a few years, I asked my younger brother who entered the same high school, only to know that such freedom has been cancelled. At that time, I had nominal freedom, but I was still at a loss to determine the direction of the future, and there were no teachers and seniors who could talk deeply about different professions in the future. The only concern of the school is to collect tuition fees and encourage students to study. The students seemed to be too dazed, so they could only consider going to college as their life goal. Afterwards, choosing a school was like a one-year-old child chasing the week. If you consider the test scores and relatives' perceptions, the schools and departments that you can choose may be less than the items in Zhou Zhou.

uniform space

This private school has a lot of regulations, and it is indispensable to encounter instructor-style management and teaching. For example, we have a class network. Every time there is a class suspension or other important notices, we need to pass two, four, and four passes. Eight, eight pass sixteen, sixteen pass thirty-two, and whoever passes on the message is fixed. In terms of uniforms, it is quite special. When winter comes, what everyone pays most attention to (and looks forward to) is whether there is a cold snap of 10-12 degrees. If there is, the school will activate the class network to inform us to wear casual clothes the next day and wear clothes that are warm enough to go to school.

When there is no cold snap, we have different ways to wear it in winter. In addition to the full set of sportswear, the inside can also be a white shirt with a dark blue vest and bow tie, a wool sweater, a turtleneck sweater, and a thick suit jacket on the outside. For girls, because we have leather shoes, it is more painful to wear double-layer gray skirts and pantyhose in winter. Wearing casual clothes in a timely manner when encountering low temperature is just a matter of necessity.

As soon as I saw the news a few weeks ago, I thought that my high school would definitely not be in the news because of this. The uniform that costs a lot of money, I never thought it was ugly, I just thought it was expensive, in addition to the above winter clothes, there are also summer clothes. short shirts and thin plaid skirts, two schoolbags (leather schoolbags and sports bags) and two pairs of shoes with general uniforms and sportswear, plus the contingency measures for casual clothes at low temperatures, almost all kinds of weather that students will encounter situation.

In fact, very few people will make fuss about uniforms. On the one hand, it is difficult to match them better, and they can wear casual clothes when it is cold. On the one hand, they are just to meet the school's homework examination requirements, and also take into account the occasional Japanese dramas they want to follow. And the topic is already too busy. We've only been trending with boys to wear sweatpants low in the waist, and whoever's pants can look the most like flying squirrel pants is the coolest. Some boys don't tie their shirts, but it's ugly on girls, and almost no one wants to do it.

The uniforms that I am familiar with do not provide us with additional choices. Just like the advanced planning of high school courses and the mandatory evening self-study time in the third year of high school, in terms of clothing, girls’ hair should not be over the shoulders from beginning to end. All space and time are is pre-specified. It's just that the formulation of various norms may only be a reflection of social values. Whether it is right or wrong will have different answers from different perspectives of life. For example, for my parents, this school was a great life answer.

Then, I realized that in the face of systems and societies with different values, constant attempts and collisions will become a process of various dialogues. I remember one night in the self-study of senior year, the male classmates in the class set off a fireworks at the school. Everyone knew the plan in a tacit understanding, but they couldn’t dance, but no one went to make a small report. Then we graduated and went to different places. Road, most of them became a self that could not be imagined in the classroom at that time.

Looking back on my high school life now, I would think that it was a school that began to experiment with authoritarian education. Although it was not comprehensively promoted to the whole school, coupled with the social background of that era, there was not much room to display, dialogue The method cannot be said to be open and mature, but as a former small experiment subject, seeing a few vague flames, schools, teachers and students have begun to look for different exits in the rigid education.

In the end, the way is thought up by people. Since we are individuals of different groups, we will eventually have to find the right path by ourselves. I think it is inevitable for us to experience these authorities, but the desire for exploration in different fields will never be wiped out. In the next stage of university, or at any point in life in the future, there is a chance to make a comeback.
