What is "Hygge"? The essential happiness vocabulary in life
Speaking of "Nordic", you may think of "Nordic style", high economic level, good welfare and other positive adjectives. If you are interested in the Nordic life attitude, then you should come to learn the word "Hygge" and turn the Hygge spirit into action and put it into real life.
So, what exactly is HYGGE?
The word Hygge comes from Denmark and is pronounced "hoo-ga", which is similar to "cozy" in English, describing a feeling of warmth, comfort and leisure . Try closing your eyes and imagine that on a cold winter morning, you open the off-white curtains to let the sun shine through the room, and then you see a drizzle outside, so you decide to stay at home, light the firewood, burn a pot of hot milk tea, and sit down Just open a book and spend a good weekend morning like this...
Why Hygge?
In northern Europe at high latitudes, winters are extraordinarily long, and the sky is dark outside, making it difficult to tell day and night. Born in such an environment, the Danes like to incorporate warm elements such as blankets, candles, sweets, and hot drinks into their home life, which not only creates a sense of happiness, but also has a positive effect of relieving stress. Hygge has gradually become a living habit , and it has quickly spread all over the world.
In Happy Danish Stream: HYGGE! In the book "Proposal for a Happy and Comfortable Life Everyday", the author describes his encounter with Hygge from the perspective of a foreigner, following the Danish way of life, such as meeting with family and friends on a weekly basis, and enjoying food without guilt , creating a personal and cultural connection through food.
Here are my notes for drawing lines in the book:
The average Dane does at least two or three Hygge-style things a week: maybe a picnic with friends, watching Nordic Noir alone in a blanket at night, or baking gingerbread with the kids in the afternoon.
Cooking together is a special experience with a very hygge atmosphere, and the trick is not to be in a hurry, or other circumstances force you to speed up. You can open a bottle of wine and share a drink with your partner, and if you have grown children, don’t forget to share it with them; if the children are young, ask them to prepare a non-alcoholic drink for themselves. While everyone cooks dinner together, you can chat and laugh; when you sit down to eat, continue to maintain a slow pace and get rid of all the constraints of busy business.
Build a Hygge Life, Start Small
- Organize the environment
When you feel tired, get up and look around your home. Are the documents on the table neatly arranged? Are the baking trays in the oven clean? Taking advantage of the ten minutes of free time, I sorted the messy bed, put the knotted wires into the storage box, and replaced the vase with pure water... When the surrounding things are properly handled, I feel much more comfortable inside.
- put a plant of your choice
Pick a favorite plant and keep it in a corner of your home, water it regularly and maintain enough sun to create your own secret forest.
- Books replace community
In the past, I always liked to write down wishes such as "10 books to read this year" in the annual list (yes, it was just a wish, because it was never fulfilled), until after I started to change my living habits and create rituals, reading is no longer just a matter of life. There is a lot of trivial time that we use to do meaningless things. For example, when I get home from get off work and class, I turn on the TV immediately and gobble down the dinner I brought back, or choose to lie in bed and scroll my phone after bathing, and two hours have passed before I know it, alas! A day was wasted like that.
- go for a walk
Hygge is not limited to home, go out on a sunny day to soak up the sun, slow down and enjoy the scenery along the way. You can invite your family to join the walk, please don't slide your phone during the process, devote yourself to each other's topics, and cherish each other's company.
While writing this article, I got up and made a cup of hot tea. As the hot smoke slowly rose, the air was filled with a faint tea fragrance. In the morning of Hygge, let me play "Blowin' in the Wind" on demand.
I'm Venus, a girl in her twenties. Recently, I feel that life is like a strategy game, and I am fighting~
Give me a high five if you like it👏Also welcome to leave a message to share your thoughts on Hygge and life proposals
