A quick review of the just-launched GeForce Now
For a macOS user, almost all things in Win can be done by macOS, and the game is that almost impossible thing.
So when I just saw that GeForce NOW was officially launched, I installed and tested it as soon as possible.
Let’s start with the conclusion: in Taiwan, it can meet most of your game needs, as long as the game you play is not the type that requires quick response and multiplayer battles.
Needless to say, multiplayer battles, the quick-response section contains most of the FPS games.
Although the newly launched servers are spread all over the world almost on five continents, the servers in Asia: Japan and South Korea are operated by partners, Japan is Softbank, and it is still in CBT, the second CBT is expected to end at the end of this month , I didn't particularly read it in Korea.
So in Taiwan, the only servers we can choose are US and EU servers, and I don't know why, when you want to test the network, the target server is actually EU Northwest? ? ? I'm a whole black question mark.
The company's network is Chunghwa Telecom's 100M uplink and downlink. After a round of testing, Taiwan's current shortest delay is US Southwest, which can be pressed at about 130-135ms, which is enough to play most games, "Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire", " Frostpunk can run smoothly at 1080p60FPS with full special effects, and there is no obvious delay. Except for the occasional drop in the quality of the streaming due to the network, the basic experience is not very troublesome.
But when I played "DOOM", the delay of the mouse made it almost impossible for me to aim smoothly, but the input of the keyboard was not so serious. Nvidia has suggested that macOS players should use the latest 10.15 operating system. Turning on direct mouse input could improve it, but whether I turned it on or off, DOOM's mouse wasn't enough for me to play the game smoothly.
At this time, I remembered that GeForce NOW supports handles, so I connected DS4 (native support after macOS 10.15, you can also use Bluetooth) to MacBook Pro to try. However, this also depends on the game, and it will be displayed in the game introduction.
It's the support part.
But not like Frostpunk
The Witcher 3 is fully supported
After opening the game, the game can be recognized normally, and the function is normal except that there is no vibration. The input of the button part is the same as that of the keyboard. There is no problem, but the analogy is like a mouse, and there will always be some slight gaps.
So I used "Bioshock: Infinite" as the control group, and found that the mouse is still as unrestrained as ever, but the handle part is too synchronized, and it is restored to the same level as the keyboard and buttons, which can be played smoothly. So this situation seems to be an individual game difference. If your mouse has the same problem of not following your hand, it is recommended to try the handle, it may not be able to solve it.
But the magic is that although the mouse is very unrestrained on the menu screen, it is normal when entering the game, at least it is much better than "DOOM", the delay is not so serious, but it is still not a very suitable state for playing. .
Epilogue
Just like the conclusion mentioned at the beginning, multiplayer battles are completely unsuitable for some games that require reaction, but if you don’t have too many games like this, I actually think the price of 4.99 USD per month is a good deal, because it is actually outside. The price of an Internet cafe for about 6 hours XD is still worth trying.
