"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon": Facing yourself is always the hardest

It's really hard to admit that you're vulnerable

The old article is reposted. The original version was actually written in the third year of high school. It has been almost ten years since then. Time is flying, but I still want to repost it.

Back then, I thought "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" was the number one movie in my heart, and it's still the same to this day, and sometimes when I'm lost, I'll take it out and review it, let's start the text!

It is to admit that the weaker you are, the more profound you are - Hello Nico (to yourself)

"Everyone has a Qingming sword in their hearts." Director Ang Lee once said. But, what exactly is that Qingming sword? what is love? What is hate? What is love? What is hatred? When you hold your hand tightly, you will find that there is nothing in it. Maybe you let go of your hand to have everything.

Li Mubai and Yu Xiulian have known and cherished each other for a long time. They guarded the marriage contract of their deceased brothers and never dared to confess to each other. The last thing Li Mubai said, it became an eternal regret. Will this kind of love be turned into eternity or left in vain? Pity?

Yu Jiaolong and Luo Xiaohu, the love born in the desert, can only be separated temporarily due to the secular etiquette. They originally thought that they could overcome the shackles of the clan and break the constraints of the etiquette. In the end, they seemed to be able to reunite, but Yu Jiaolong jumped, Leaving Luo Xiaohu with infinite regrets.

Why does Yu Jiaolong dance? When Yu Jiaolong went to see Luo Xiaohu, the expression on her face was not as happy as she had imagined. Perhaps at that time, she had already given the answer in her heart.

Yu Xiulian and Yu Jiaolong, two sisters with different surnames who had an accidental fate, forged a friendship because of a Qingming sword, but their face was torn apart because of the sword. Yu Jiaolong even said, "Leave the sword and not What is the purpose of such ruthless words? Is it really for a sword?

In addition, what is the real reason why Yu Jiaolong has been reluctant to recognize Li Mubai as his teacher? I think it's not just because of the master blue-eyed fox, but because he is unwilling to face his own weakness and inadequacy, because he thinks that his talent and martial arts are extremely high, and what he lacks is a Qingming sword, not a master, as long as he can With the Qingming Sword, you will be invincible in the world, and there is no need to take others as your teacher. But Yu Jiaolong actually knew in his heart that to take Li Mubai as his teacher was to admit that his basic skills were not solid and weak. From the few battles between the two, we could tell that Li Mubai was quiet and stable, but Yu Jiaolong was impatient and unsteady. I think that many people, like Yu Jiaolong, are unwilling or unable to face their own weaknesses and deficiencies. Even Xiang Yu's roar before his death was "It's not a sin to kill me today!" to admit his weakness , requires courage.

What shocked me the most was that Yu Jiaolong jumped down at the end, at first he couldn't understand why he wanted to do this? Did she feel sorry for anyone? Is there anything you are not satisfied with? Then I thought of Qiao Feng from Tianlong Babu. In the end, Qiao Feng could not die, but what he pursued was the right path in his heart, so he decided to commit suicide in front of Yanmen Pass. Yu Jiaolong, on the other hand, originally pursued freedom, longed for an unfettered life, and extravagantly hoped for a life free from the shackles of etiquette, without the need for others to decide his own life. But after seeing Li Mubai's death from poisoning, he found that what he pursued, believed and longed for was not as good as he imagined, and what he was obsessed with didn't seem to be the most important thing. Man, at that moment, Yu Jiaolong faced his sincerity, and finally made a choice and jumped down.

The deaths of Qiao Feng and Yu Jiaolong were all decisions made after facing their true heart. They didn't feel sorry for anyone, but I think that Qiao Feng chose to die to protect the Tao in his heart, while Yu Jiaolong chose to die because of his heart. The collapse of beliefs and the choice of death seem to be the same, but they are different.

I really like what Li Mubai said, "Hold your hand tightly, there is nothing in it: let go of your hand, you get everything." Perhaps our attachments may lead to losing ourselves in the end: or perhaps, the moment we let go of our attachments and face our true heart, we may gain everything.

I can always see a lot of "feelings that I want to say but can't explain it directly" in director Ang Lee's films. After watching it, I often have an unspeakable feeling choked in my throat. In the ending of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Li Mubai's death and Yu Jiaolong's jumping figure were deeply imprinted in my heart, and the feeling of being unable to breathe deeply reverberated in my heart.

Is Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon's ending a tragedy? What is Ang Lee trying to express in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon? What do you want to convey to the audience? Or, want to find some answers in the shooting?

I think, if each character has a sincere face to his heart and makes a decision, whether it is life or death, a good ending or a bad ending, that's not the most important thing. Or maybe that's what Ang Lee wants to tell us: be honest with your heart.

Just as Yu Xiulian said to Yu Jiaolong at the end: "Promise me, no matter what your decision in this life is, you must be sincere to yourself."
