The global epidemic is still ongoing, and Taiwan's medical care has evolved accordingly! In mid-May 2020, the Fu Jen Catholic University Affiliated Hospital and the private R&D team, through the guidance of relevant departments and the planning of the Taiwan Design and Research Institute, announced the recently developed and tested modular ward "MAC Ward" within one and a half months. One MAC The English abbreviations derived from the three major concepts "Modular (modular), Adaptable (adjustable in time), Convertible (functional conversion)".

"MAC Ward" can not only be rebuilt on the spot in old wards, but also in parking lots, stadiums, health clinics, etc., and can be built instantly anywhere, and the assembly can be completed within 24 hours! It not only subverts the existing concept of ward, but also changes the appearance of the temporary shelter for a while, creating a space with a sense of humanity and design!

The design team is the planning team of the Taipei Flower Expo "Ark of Life in the Far East" built with recycled bottles in 2010. This time, they cooperated with the Innovation and Development Office of Fu University Hospital and the Taiwan Design and Research Institute, combined with the past long-term efforts to cultivate environmentally friendly recycled materials and space design. ✤ Feature 1: Recycled raw materials are used, and functions can be changed in the future!

MAC Ward uses recycled aluminum and recycled PET bottles as raw materials, and incorporates the antibacterial properties required for medical treatment into the material. In the future, it can be replaced with various types of wards (intensive care ward, general ward, negative pressure isolation ward) according to the needs, not only taking into account the medical needs we encounter, but also considering the global environment.

Most of the temporary wards built in recent months are one-piece, bulky and difficult to transport. In order to solve this problem, MAC Ward is like Lego, which can be disassembled into multiple parts, and will be used in the initial planning. The transportation space such as elevators is taken into consideration to reduce the size of parts and facilitate transportation. In terms of construction, in addition to being able to be assembled within 24 hours, it can also be converted into a general ward with functions such as isolation, negative pressure, and intensive care in just 48 hours according to the usage situation.

✤ Feature 3: Use antibacterial materials and AI wisdom to achieve effective epidemic prevention

COVID-19 has highlighted the importance of the medical negative pressure system. However, most of the temporary wards cannot meet the standard of "air only in and out", and there is still a risk of cross-infection. MAC Ward not only meets the "airtight" conditions, but the wall panels also use their exclusive research and development of PET recycled materials with sterilization function, which can effectively isolate bacteria and viruses; the ward is also equipped with an automatic ultraviolet cleaning system and an AI system implanted to allow Medical staff can monitor the ward remotely.

In terms of space planning, in addition to the basic hospital beds, bathroom needs, and independent air conditioners necessary for the isolation ward, "Xiaozhi R&D" also incorporates the design aesthetics that they have always attached great importance to. Considering that patients must stay in the isolation ward for a long time, they designed smart lighting and an art wall with sound-absorbing function, hoping to allow users to relieve stress and speed up recovery through art.
