Seeing that many jobs now require the ability of data analysis, if you want to get started with data analysis, what should you learn?

  1. When many people learn a new thing, they often fall into the misunderstanding of "big and complete", that is, they only care about whether they have learned everything, rather than what the market needs most. In fact, the pursuit of entry is not to become an "expert", but to pursue "quick entry". The correct way is to only learn the "minimum necessary knowledge", and after these necessary learnings are introduced, the others will be supplemented and perfected.
  2. What is the "minimum necessary knowledge" to get started with data analysis? You will live on 4 key knowledge points: statistics, Excek SQL and analytical methods.
  3. Statistics is the foundation of data analysis. If you don’t understand statistics, you can’t even understand data. There is a lot of content in statistics. As an introduction, the "minimum necessary knowledge" of introductory statistics is enough to learn to describe statistical analysis.
  4. Descriptive statistical analysis is to reduce a series of complex data into a few numbers that can play a descriptive role. Just like in the Olympic gymnastics competition, we condense a set of complex movements with multiple difficulty combinations into a score according to several judgment criteria: 9.8 point. Descriptive statistical analysis is to use four indicators to describe the overall situation of the data. Mastering these four indicators will lead to descriptive statistical analysis. These four indicators are: mean, quartile, standard deviation and standard score.
  5. Many people mistakenly think that Excel is very low and they are reluctant to learn. In fact, the most frequently used analysis tool in the company is Excelo. You do not need to learn every function of Excel like the college entrance examination, but you can master the functions related to data analysis in Excel.
  6. There is no need to learn SQL very deeply. Mastering advanced SQL is what DBA (database administrator, a position specializing in database management) needs to do. Many people have immersed themselves in learning all the skills of SQL, instead of applying for the job of DBA, the ability of data analysis. As an introduction, you can grasp the search function of SQL. The daily work of the analysis is to use SQL to find the required data from the database, rather than modifying the database.
  7. Data analysis also requires knowledge of analytical methods. Optical analysis tools are not enough. What your job requires is not that you fiddle with data analysis tools, but that you can face problems and analyze problems, which requires you to master common analysis methods. It's like, you have an axe (analytical tool), but you don't know how to use it to chop wood (analytical method). About the commonly used analysis methods, I have said in other tips.
