How does Macau Gaming City go on? ——Reading Notes of "Good Economy"

Recently I was reading a book on corporate social responsibility, called "Good Economy" (authored by Yu Tongbi). Although the content of this book is not particularly surprising to me, it is very enlightening and resonating when I read it here and now.

A point emphasized by "Good Economy" is that when enterprises engage in transformation or activities that are conducive to sustainable development and social benefits, they should not just do it like ordinary philanthropy, but should deepen this kind of business into the texture, instead of Practice corporate social responsibility in a way that is highly relevant to the industry, customers and communities. For example, retailer Target returns a portion of its profits to the communities that support its stores; Tata, India’s largest manufacturer, uses its world-class technical know-how to advance the underprivileged; Disney operates a huge international theme Parks and cruise companies focus their corporate social responsibility on wildlife protection, environmental sustainability, and fair labor systems... Only when they are closely related to business and community, can the performance of social responsibility be sustainable and real, which also implies that " The principle of benefiting others and self” means that only by continuously improving the surrounding environment will one’s own development be long-lasting. Although this principle is not difficult to understand, it is difficult to practice. In particular, the earth is currently facing severe environmental pollution and climate problems. Human beings are faced with unpredictable fates and disasters every day. The wealth and class of society are increasingly divided, and conflicts are becoming increasingly acute. Plundering and harsh demands will only go away. In a dead end, "coexistence" is the only option.

Therefore, combined with the current environment of Macau, I feel the same way: a small town dominated by the gaming industry is becoming more and more unsustainable. Gambling is potentially "toxic" to the society, and it is difficult to be used as a driving force for "domestic demand", which in turn makes it necessary to seek externally. However, the prevention and control measures since the epidemic have greatly dampened Macau's tourism industry. How can there be no source of tourists? For cooking without rice? Then there is the tourism industry, which has the same function as the gaming industry. It has not been able to promote the development of high value-added for a long time. It is almost a "labor-intensive" method of gaming and retail. Before the epidemic, it has shown that it cannot keep up with the competition in other regions. Not to mention. Various crises have now emerged. Therefore, there has always been a strong voice in the society to strengthen the corporate responsibility of gaming enterprises, so as to promote the moderate diversification and sustainable development of the local industry.

This ties in with the above topic. How should the corporate responsibilities of local gaming companies be fulfilled in a standardized manner, so as not to be reduced to dealing with crossovers, and to achieve mutual benefits? This is a super conundrum. But first, it is necessary to coordinate the development of the local society and gaming enterprises, and find a consistent way forward. As mentioned above, since the gaming industry is interdependent with the tourism industry, large gaming companies must try their best to help improve the local tourism model. It should assist in the development of local entertainment, film and television, cultural tourism, and cultural undertakings, and enhance Macao’s soft power. For example, can it support local art and cultural performance groups, or support local short films, films, and self-media undertakings? Let’s be bold and think that the exhibition venues owned by the gaming companies are actually enough to hold programs like the “National Star-making” in neighboring ports. Will there be some bigger “plays” in the future? In the operation of shopping malls, can more local new and promising catering, retail and other enterprises be awarded? Will the brand's exhibition help? ;There are two sides to everything. Gambling can make people bankrupt, but it can also be a pleasant entertainment under moderate moderation. Under "responsible gambling", casino customers can coexist in compromise, and indirectly reduce a large number of potential crimes and suicides The crisis is not only beneficial to local security, but also improves the tourism image of Macau. In the future, it will attract more tourists to visit, which is also beneficial to its own long-term development. These ideas are exactly what I felt when I read "The Good Economy".
