Turned middle-aged uncle

It is a normal phenomenon to change the runway in the workplace. Luckily, after 22 years of stay in the "Sacred Mountain of Protecting the Country", I have witnessed the semiconductor production technology desert being irrigated into an oasis and a thriving ecosystem. The idea of about work "standing under the stage for a long time, it is yours" is not as good as "rolling stones do not grow moss", so I transferred three departments and a new subsidiary in it. After different roles and experiences, I can feel it better. "Home" is important, so I choose to leave time for my family

Where there are many construction projects, go there

I was lucky in terms of job hunting. I passed the national exam during my military service, so I started looking for a suitable government unit before retiring. Among them, the higher salary is a state-owned enterprise, so I chose to be "One Piece" (at that time, Yang Ming Shipping was a state-owned enterprise) , the work place is in Tianlong Kingdom, and there is a weekly round trip between Hsinchu and Taipei. At that time, only the Hsinchu Science Park had two days off every week, and Yang Ming Shipping was about to be privatized after a year of work. He calculated in his mind: “Being severanced” can receive six months of severance pay, and then go back to the Hsinchu Science Park to find a job (money). more, two days off on weekends, close to home).

In the process of interviewing for work in the park, I found that Taipei people live a relatively fast pace of life, and Hsinchu people work with a clear and precise atmosphere, especially when I see many large construction sites along the road, and trucks come in and out, causing a lot of dust, which means that there will be new models in the future. Factory, office and business opportunities, I thought; this is it.

A practice workshop that is deployed ahead of time

Every graduation season, many people lament the huge gap between school teaching and industry demand, and hope that schools can teach more industry-related skills. In fact, companies are also facing similar problems. In the fast-growing semiconductor industry, in addition to rapid technological iteration, the increase in organizational members makes information processing and decision-making more complex. First, business processes become longer as organizational levels and management units increase. Secondly, the increase in cross-organizational coordination operations is affected by selfishness, which often reduces operational efficiency due to "dropped links".

In view of this, I entered the newly established unit, responsible for designing and optimizing business processes, and by setting up projects with relevant departments to solve the problems that will be faced now and in the future. In addition to serving as a full-time project manager to keep track of the progress, he also acts as an expert in process optimization, designing powers, responsibilities and review mechanisms that respond to organizational growth. During this period, in order to fully understand the work content of each department, we also have internship programs, such as; wearing clean clothes into the factory to understand how the production line dispatches workers and production procedures. These pre-exercise deployments have trained us to be the basis for serving as in-house consultants.

Falling into the mortal Shura field

Fifteen years of experience in TSMC, from project management, internal consultant to supervisor, there is one thing that cannot be achieved: entrepreneurship. It just so happened that TSMC wanted to enter the energy-saving and green energy market at that time, and established two subsidiaries, solid-state lighting and solar energy. They were both new entrants to the industry and needed to outsource management to effectively use resources. I chose solid-state lighting because the work place did not change in Hsinchu. , with minimal impact on the family.

The main product of solid-state lighting is the wick of LED bulbs. If customers need lighting equipment, we will evaluate suitable outsourcers. Because they belong to traditional industries, they spend a lot of time and cost running in, unlike semiconductors in manufacturing automation and quality management. On the other hand, we introduce rigorous semiconductor production management into the production of our own wicks, and at the same time develop new processes to further increase the cost.

Investing in LED lighting is TSMC's performance of saving energy and protecting the environment, but it is a low-profit market. Although we have made a lot of efforts in outsourcing and production, after four years, we are still unable to match the reality, so we have to end the operation and return to the parent company.

reflection

Going back to TSMC, I thought about the original intention of the work, the process of pursuing the goal of each project, and the accumulated experience. There are endless stories to tell, but I found that the time to spend with my family seems to be insufficient, especially when my children are about to enter high school and college, they need to be more More time to talk.

So turn to face the family and chat with the children, from life bits to experience, they may not be able to imagine and experience the economic take-off we have had, but they hope to have the ability to challenge the status quo and move towards the goal. On the other hand, I will also share the solutions and results that I have taken in different workplace situations. As for whether it is the best solution, it may be up to the readers to experience it themselves.
