Walking route: Sendagi Station → Nezu Shrine → Sanshiro Pond of the University of Tokyo → Metropolitan Yanaka Primordial Garden → Yanaka Ginza → Sendagi Station

On this day, I arrived at the area of "Yanesen" that I always wanted to go to.

Yanesen, located in Bunkyo and Taito districts, actually refers to the three areas of Yanaka (やなか), Nezu (ねづ), and Thousand Wood (せんだぎ). This area is considered the old town of Tokyo, which is commonly known as the Shimachi (したまち) area.

One of the features of the Shitamachi area is the historic buildings that line the streets. Most of these buildings are left over from previous wars. Compared with the high-rise buildings that can be seen everywhere in Tokyo, these historical buildings are even more unique.

The first stop was Nezu Shrine (ねづじんじゃ), one of the ten shrines in Tokyo.

According to legend, Nezu Shrine was built 1900 years ago by Takezun (a figure from the Kofun era in Japan). In the past, Nezu Shrine was called Nezu Kagen . However, in the early Meiji period, due to the policy of separation of gods and Buddhas , the name was banned, so fewer and fewer people used the name Nezu Kagen .

権present (ごんげん) is a Japanese name for the incarnation of the Bodhisattva.

The shrine we see so far was built by Tokugawa Jiaxuan, the lord of the Kofu domain of the Edo shogunate. The main hall, the coin hall, and the worship hall are built in the style of the modern building.

The characteristics of the existing buildings are that the main hall and the worship hall are integrated, and the two halls separated by the middle are called Ishi no Ma (いしのま). Many well-known shrines include Ueno Toshogu in Ueno Park and Kitano Tenman in Kyoto. Palace and so on.

After visiting the shrine, we came to the University of Tokyo campus.

I visited with my family a few years ago, but I hadn't come into contact with Soseki Natsume's works at that time, so I didn't have much impression of Sanshiro Pond, which must be visited, so I took this opportunity to visit again~

Because it was Sunday, there were only a few students on the campus of Dongda University, and the atmosphere of the whole campus was very quiet.

It was about 2:00 in the afternoon when I walked from the University of Tokyo to the Yanaka Reiki Garden.

Yanaka Memorial Garden covers an area of about 100,000 square meters and has 7,000 tombs. Many famous people are buried here, including Tokugawa Keiki, the 15th general of the Tokugawa family, and Makino Totaro, the father of Japanese botany.

The cherry blossoms along the central road of Yanzhong Lingyuan will bloom around March and April every year, and maybe a day can be arranged as a cherry blossom viewing itinerary in the spring of next year.

The last stop came to Yanaka Ginza Shopping Street. Many Japanese shopping streets will be named Ginza, because Ginza itself is a symbol of prosperity.

I don't know if many stores are closed due to the impact of the epidemic...

💫Small conclusion: People who like the Shimomachi style are very suitable for arranging a half-day stroll in the Yanesen area to experience the leisurely local style. The next half day can be arranged to Ueno Park, which is about 20 minutes away.
