German experience - language problems, traveler's self-discipline

Traveling to Europe has always been the choice of most Asians, because they yearn for its completely different scenery, architecture and food from Asia. However, many friends have overlooked a rather important issue: language barriers.

Traveling to Europe has always been the choice of most Asians, because they yearn for its completely different scenery, architecture and food from Asia. However, many friends have overlooked a rather important issue: language barriers.

Friends who have traveled to European countries should also find that (not counting the UK, of course) most of the people in these countries are not good at English. When you encounter an emergency, you need to ask others for help and help them in English. You may often get the help of others in the local area. The language answer is really dumbfounding at the moment.

The author feels most deeply in Germany. As one of the largest countries in Europe, it is difficult to imagine that most of the local people can only speak German. Even in middle school, they can only teach the languages of neighboring countries such as French or Spanish. Only some young people.

Sometimes, when you communicate in English as a matter of course, it may be just a blank eye or ignorance. To be honest, it feels really uncomfortable. Especially in southern Germany, in big cities like Munich, finding someone who speaks fluent English can be as difficult as winning the jackpot. On the other hand, walking on the streets of Berlin is greeted with "Hello" in Mandarin every few steps.

But from another point of view, they are just maintaining their own language, as if to express: Want to hang out here? Learn German first! In Hong Kong, on the other hand, a senior official even insisted that Cantonese is only a local dialect, which means that it has no reserved value. Thinking of it this way, I don't actually dislike the idea of Germans, and I'm a little envious.

All in all, friends who will travel to Europe, please prepare yourself mentally, don't think that everyone can speak "international language" English. And be prepared to translate mobile phone programs or simple dictionaries, etc., when necessary, you will not talk about chickens and ducks. This is also a kind of respect for the locals as a tourist.

After the author:

Now that I'm good at learning, I will first ask the other person if they can speak English in the local language, so that everyone will remove the first barrier first.
