[Proposal] Integrate duplicate URLs so that the original text and the copy do not fight

One-click moving

Continuing the previous "One-click move from Medium to Matters ", the hundreds of Medium articles that were moved that day are indeed lying in Matters' draft box.

But recently, when I was deciding which article to publish, I suddenly had a doubt - am I publishing the original text or a copy on the Matters platform?

original and copy

I don't know if you have the habit of running your own website at the same time, or publishing your articles on both Medium and Vocus in addition to posting on Matters?

If anything, there is an "original and copy" difference to the Google search engine . Taking myself as an example, I usually write two kinds of content:

  1. Blockchain related: "Original" published on the block potential website, "Copy" published on Matters, Medium and Vocus
  2. Other: "Original" published on Matters website, "Copy" published on Medium and Vocus

If I also publish an article about "Mosquito Blockchain" on the Blockpotential website, Matters, Medium and Vocus, of course I most hope that the first thing that pops up in the search results is the one on the Blockpotential website, instead of the other three.

In other words, "Original" is the website that you want to be the first to appear in the search results. The "copy" is used to guide the flow of the "original".

Consolidate duplicate URLs

I recently (only) discovered that things like Medium and Vocus have a "canonical link" option that allows authors to clearly tell Google which URL is the "original" and where is the "copy" before publishing the article . However, Matters didn't have this option before publication, so there was nowhere to tell Google about it.

As a result, this "copy" of Matters may compete with the "original" published on the website, and in the end, it is not known which will win. Therefore, I would like to propose that Matters can add the function of "integrating duplicate URLs (canonical link)" before the article is published. By default, Mattes is "original" but it can also allow the creator to keep the option of telling Google that this article is a "copy".
