Getting started with Wirex card: application process, pre-setting, confusion, and thinking about some problems

(edited)
Long text, many pictures, be careful! There have been relatively few updates recently, except for the trough of life and emotions, I am busy with this. This article was invited by "Suffix" fake breaking text Qingzhi, and the verifier John Shao sponsored the broadcast. I would like to thank you.

In 2019, I watched two special exhibitions at the Hakodate City Museum. Before leaving the museum, I was burned by a display again, causing me (?) to stand in front of it and watch it for half an hour.

A group of ancient coins unearthed in the 1960s due to road widening in Shikai-cho. Later, Hakodate City Haku took over the sorting and research of these ancient coins, and published the report "Hakodate Nori and Ancient Pills". Among the hundreds of ancient coins unearthed, the ancient coins from Song, Liao, Jin, Yuan and Ming Dynasties are one of the largest, especially "Song coins". For example, the urns in the picture below are all "Xiangfu Tongbao" from the Zhenzong period of the Northern Song Dynasty.

There are also "Song coins" unearthed in Hokkaido!
Send money! Send money! Send money! This homophony sounds so healing!

When I looked at this batch of ancient coins, the above two things were what I thought in my head. It was really vulgar. By the way, if you want to know a little about the Japanese-Song trade and the circulation of Song money in Japan, you can watch the 2012 HNK drama "Ping Qingsheng".

It will evoke the memory of seeing these batches of ancient Song Dynasty coins in the museum on the way to the past. It is actually because at the beginning of this month, the editor-in-chief of @Jeger , who faked Wen Qingzhi of "Suffix", came to me and pushed me to make one. wirex financial card, the extension of writing ideas.

In an era when there is no modern concept of "sovereign state" and no such thinking as "fiat currency", the circulation and use of currency are often difficult to apply to today's "national borders". in this way.

In another scenario, when various cryptocurrencies can be directly recharged in the financial card, as a choice for daily consumption in residence and payment for expenses when traveling and traveling, there is no need to convert them into legal currencies of various countries. This development trend seems to be related to the Song Qian's "crossover" in those days had a faint sense of sight.

So, I conspired with the editor-in-chief of @Jeger (huh?) to apply for a wirex debit card, starting on 4/11!

1. The application process may look like this:

4/3: Conspiracy and Private Chat

4/4:

  1. Download APP, register account
  2. KYC (it took two to succeed, what should be prepared and procedures, because other teaching texts have already explained it very clearly, I will not repeat them here)
  3. Notify that the review was successful
  4. Order card (swipe the card to recharge 10USD: Standard Chartered VISA failed twice; Fubon MASTER failed once; Fubon MASTER swiped again to display Pending)

4/5:

  1. It is found that the Pending status has returned to declined, and re-flash Fubon again.
  2. Finally swiped successfully, the status of the card shows "Express Delivery"

Remarks: So if you can't brush it once, just brush it several times! Sometimes it may be that the internet connection or the APP is in a bad mood. After swiping, if you want to delete the card first, click on the diagram of the villain in the upper left corner and select "Linked Cards" to delete it. Poor people who have no assets would rather have a little trouble.

4/11:

  1. I was in the library at 10 am and received a call from DHL asking me to open the door to sign for the receipt.
  2. I found that DHL had sent a text message before delivery, but when I saw the message, the person was no longer at home.

2. Various pre-settings

  1. Before you go home and see the card in person, open the APP, click the ACCOUNTS option, and go in to add two new accounts. JPY has been added to the legal currency part, which may be used when the border is opened.
  2. As for the cryptocurrency part, LUNA was added first. Because I don't have any other supported cryptocurrencies, although I have a little BCH that can be exchanged for BTC to recharge, I don't consider using BCH now. In fact, my current OSMO can only make up a little bit of LUNA.
  3. After returning home, I saw the card in person, and made a card-opening action. Enter the last four codes of the card, the month and year of validity, and the set PIN code in sequence.
  4. In addition, in the schematic diagram of the villain on the main screen, enter the Security option, and turn on 2FA (Two-factor authentication) by the way, adding a protective mechanism.

3. Analysis of various doubts before use

First of all, the question that @Jeger would like to know is: "Can this card be recharged with fiat currency into cryptocurrency?" The answer is " yes ".

  1. On the main screen of the APP, click ACCOUNT to enter (or ADD FUNDS can also be used), click DIGITAL on the right, there are currently four cryptocurrencies displayed on my menu, but I don't see the currency that I want to recharge, press ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT below to go You can add it.
  2. For example, if I want to recharge LUNA with a fiat currency credit card, press ADD FUNDS in the lower left corner. After entering, you will see the CARDS option, enter the card number and the amount you want to add, and you can change it to LUNA. After adding value, it is recommended to delete the card first.

In addition, you can also create a XACCOUNT, select the crypto currency supported by this card, and set the survival interest. XACCOUNT can also buy cryptocurrency with a fiat credit card and put it into fixed deposit. It is suggested that you can click PRICE to see the currency price before you want to exchange coins.

Secondly, if you use Keplr wallet or little fox, how to put cryptocurrency into wirex card for daily consumption? (Thanks @Autumn Ferry's street photography Ⅰ*caishin Happy brother for providing information)

  1. The part of Keplr supports Terra (LUNA) chain. First, exchange coins in OSMOSIS (for example, if you hold OSMO, exchange it for LUNA), then WITHDRAW, and then charge it into wirex's Terra chain wallet. This part can be operated with the computer version. If you want to operate it with a mobile phone, you need to download the Terra app.
  2. For the part of the little fox, if you have stored MATIC coins, you can send it to wirex through the Polygon chain. This card supports the Polygon chain. In addition, if you use the MAX exchange, you can buy MATIC coins at MAX first. Currently, MAX uses the Polygon chain to withdraw MATIC, which is free of handling fees. (My MAX referral link )

Third, explain the doubts about " overseas consumption "? A few things to figure out first. (This part of the regulations is subject to change at any time and is for reference only).

  1. If you use a credit card to swipe foreign currency or encrypted currency, and recharge it into the wirex card, there may be a handling fee for "overseas consumption". Please inquire about the respective card-issuing bank first, and tell your card, whether they will charge you this amount. . For example, I used to pay a monthly fee of US$5 for swiping the Citizens of Appreciation, and I used a Standard Chartered credit card, so there was a handling fee for overseas swiping.
  2. On the other hand, if you hold a credit card issued by major banks in Taiwan, you can earn rewards for overseas consumption. Hurry up and see if you have this kind of credit card at hand. I don't have one myself. After doing freelance work, it is difficult to approve a new credit card.
  3. For consumption after recharging into wirex, as far as I know in Taiwan, there is no transaction fee, only foreign exchange difference.
  4. In the future, when the country is open, there will be no handling fee for spending abroad with this card. As for overseas ATM withdrawals, there is no handling fee within the current limit (400SGD/month). If you want to find out in Taiwan, it depends on whether the bank has received it or not. According to the information I have seen, Cathay Pacific does not need to charge it at present.

Fourth, what is the difference between swiping the card to deposit funds and exchanging coins with the validator?

  1. When you swipe your card to deposit money, the handling fee is the amount that the issuing bank charges you for overseas transactions, and how much depends on your bank and card.
  2. The validator will exchange coins for you, and will earn you a little handling fee (ask the validator how much you charge, this is the first layer); the validator transfers the coins to your wallet, and you need to charge the wirex card from your own wallet Wallet (will require gas fee, this is the second layer of skin).

Fifth, no one seems to talk about it , what can you do if this card is lost? I went to the wirex official website and looked at what to do if it was lost or stolen.

  1. Use the mobile APP or log in to the official website to lock the card. But where to lock the card, the official website does not make it very clear. My idea is to go to the villain diagram on the main screen, select the Security option, and quickly change the PIN code, so that the other party who picks up/stole the card will not receive the money. If only the card is lost and the mobile phone is still around, it should not be a big problem. The conclusion is, don't put too much living funds in it.
  2. Then quickly contact customer service to reissue a new card .

4. Summary:

During the card application and writing, I read Mr. Gao's "Blockchain Sociology" at the suggestion of the invitation and the sponsor. Some of the concepts mentioned in the book have been combined with the cards to the present (still collecting coins but not actually used). I, a liberal arts person who is not a major in economics and finance, is struggling with some questions. If you are interested, you can Think about it together:

  1. "The decoupling of price and value is the norm": Take high-speed rail as an example, the fare is the "price", and through this "price", the "value" of "time saving" and "fast movement" is generated , so, I use the price of high-speed rail to pursue the above two values I want. As far as cryptocurrency is concerned, in addition to being reflected in its price due to market demand, the price of certain currencies can be used directly for daily consumption. Can the function of "consumption" be regarded as "value"? ? However, such "value" does not seem to be so decoupled from "price"?
  2. Taking the wirex card as an example, in addition to fiat currency, is it based on "price" or "value" in choosing the crypto currency that supports recharge?
  3. The value of cryptocurrencies cannot be imagined and deduced by thinking about traditional currencies. For example, is DAO not the value given to traditional currencies? In addition, now even cryptocurrencies can be used directly in financial cards by recharging, and it is not necessary to exchange them for "real money" or "sovereign currency" (fiat currency). Can it be understood that the use of this cryptocurrency will gradually break the thinking that only currency issued by the regime can be recognized as "real money" in the past.

During the writing of this article, we received review and valuable comments from the invited contributor @Jeger and the sponsor @JohnShao, and we discussed the structure of the writing for a while. Perhaps after actually using wirex, you will have more thoughts on the above questions. So, stay tuned for the next one!
