LikeCoin chain has been successfully upgraded to LaiChiKok version on May 4th, let's take a look at the process behind the scenes - Oursky, validators and Liker Land team work together.

🔎Focus story: LikeCoin chain LaiChiKok upgrade

LikeCoin chain has been successfully upgraded to LaiChiKok version on May 4th. After the upgrade, the LikeCoin wallet address has been changed to a new address prefix of "like" and is backward compatible with the old "cosmos" prefix. New features have been added including upgrading Cosmos-SDK to 0.44.8 and ibc-go 2.1.0. Let's take a look at the process behind the scenes - Oursky, validators, and the Liker Land team.

Upgrade preparation

Since the work policy was set at the beginning of the year, the Liker Land team began to study the feasibility of wallet address prefix compatibility, and tested related application services, including wallets, exchanges, and Dapps upgrade compatibility and corresponding development work.

Origin of LaiChiKok

The upgrade software was prepared by Oursky , and since Motion 33 was passed by the community agreeing to hire Oursky at the end of January, they have worked side by side with #tech-subdao to help accelerate the technological development of LikeCoin chain. Oursky is also one of the LikeCoin validators .

The location of Oursky's Hong Kong office, LaiChiKok, became the codename for the upgrade. They have their own cat mascots: peanut, sesame, coffee, milk tea, and have a cat's Facebook page . CEO Sesame has moved to the Taipei office earlier to be responsible for "governing" local employees. The smooth upgrade this time is due to the leadership of a few more cats.

Cosmovisor auto-upgrades

Last year, LikeCon FoTan upgraded verifiers from all over the world to gather together to input commands that night, which is really inconvenient for verifiers in different time zones. In this upgrade, the Cosmovisor automatic upgrade tool is used, and the validator can complete the upgrade settings in advance, which not only greatly saves time but also improves flexibility.

The Liker Land team is responsible for coordinating the community during the upgrade process, especially validators participating in the upgrade. Although the validator can raise the bed and soft pillow to let the system automatically complete the work after completing the upgrade settings, there are still many validators who will witness the upgrade process and help partners in need together at 10:00pm GMT+8 on May 4th. , I really appreciate their tireless efforts to protect LikeCoin. LikeCoin chain LaiChiKok was officially upgraded successfully at 23:39pm GMT+8 after each node restarted and reached 67% of the online voting rights!

Liker Notes

After the upgrade is complete, Liker Land app users will be automatically converted to the new "like" prefix wallet address, as for Keplr users, they need to set manually to use the new format. For details, please refer to FAQs and tutorials . The Liker Land team is following up on the progress of the exchange, Desmos Profile, depub.SPACE and various blockchain browsers to convert prefixes. Looking back at the past, LikeCoin has undergone five upgrades, which are:

KaiTak (2019.3.15): Proof of concept based on Cosmos' Tendermint technology, establishing an Ethereum bridge testnet to support depositing and withdrawing LikeCoin to the LikeCoin chain
Taipei (2019.9.12, testnet): The first Proof Of Stake testnet using Cosmos-SDK 0.3X and run by validators, any stakeholder who entrusts LikeCoin to validators can participate in the community Governance
SheungWan (2019.11.15): LikeCoin chain officially launched, updated the Cosmos-SDK version and migrated from Ethereum to the Cosmos ecosystem, with the characteristics of high speed, low cost and liquid democracy
FoTan (2021.8.18): Support content registration ISCN, Cosmos Stargate function IBC 0.4x version to realize cross-chain transactions
LaiChiKok (2022.5.4): Change to like wallet address prefix, upgrade Cosmos-SDK to 0.44.8 and ibc-go 2.1.0. Also the first time to use Cosmovisor for automatic upgrades

The next upgrade, codenamed StarFerry, is also in the works, expected to take place in June, and will include the long-awaited NFT function. We will share further news in the next community report.

Working group progress

Reports on the progress of the various working groups at the community meeting in May, including:

#marketing-sub-dao: The two major themes in April are the promotion of depub.SPACE and the discussion of LikeCoin NFT to increase the brand effect. Next, more brand ambassadors will be invited to participate in the promotion. For example, Blockbuster will join in May to help increase Discord's community attention.
#tech-subdao: In addition to the LikeCoin upgrade and NFT function mentioned in the focus story, the new version design of dao.like.co has been confirmed, and a display website will be made for testing as soon as possible.
Community Entrustment Committee: Together with the return from the previous entrustment and the 100 million LIKEs that will provide an incentive plan for validators after the passage of Proposal 44, the current fund has a total of more than 230 million LIKEs. Round 11 has been delegated to 12 validators.
Creation Fund Committee: Although the commissions appreciated by Citizen Nodes continue to rise, they still have not reached the same level as previously planned, and the number of matching funds in May will remain unchanged.
