Talk about the first meeting of the Creation Fund team

In fact, it was finished last month, but it has been delayed until now due to various reasons including ourselves as pigeons... 😂 and this article is not a meeting record, just write down some of our own suggestions to the members, and also not Does not represent the opinion of the Creation Fund team.

What is the Rehearsal Creation Fund Group?

It won't be too long without any activity to forget us. (x)

Matt citizens who are familiar with LikeCoin and appreciate citizens should know that in addition to the direct support of appreciated citizens (whether it is Classic’s average score or 2.0 fixed-point support), “turning appreciation into appreciation” also has a daily clapping count. Prorated "Creation Fund".

For a long time, the creation fund is distributed by the wallet held by the Liker Land team (probably this is what it means,@黄牛山人😶 ), except for the majority of Likers and appreciative citizens who know from the official account that the creation fund is clapping hands Apart from the proportional distribution of numbers, and the greater proportion of applauding citizens, this method of distribution of creative funds is almost a black box. (laugh)

Of course, Shanren himself wanted to make some changes, and he also came up with the plan to shift the allocation of creative funds from the Liker Land team to a non-centralized community.

So what is the work of this group, basically the following two points:

  • Determines the amount of the Creation Fund to be distributed monthly and daily.
  • Review and optimize the distribution mechanism of the creation fund, and operate the creation fund wallet to distribute the creation fund according to the distribution mechanism.

For example, what method is used to calculate the distribution ratio of the creation fund, the weight of different content or creators (for example, the weight of the appreciation key on Liker.Social is relatively low, which is proposed by Liker.Social operation itself. It may also be possible in the future. Will consider clear ways to reduce the impact of clapping hands on creative funds like this.) and so on.

Although there are still some issues that have not been considered, such as how to communicate the news of the group activities to Likers and appreciative citizens, and the degree to which the distribution method is disclosed (all hidden and scolded in the black box, all public may be malicious. Guys learn how to counter it, it's so hard...), but after all, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

So after the passage of Proposition 23, the construction progress of the Creation Fund Committee has been accelerated. Of course, the first thing is that the members have to meet first...

Review Appreciating Citizenship Development

The " Citizens of Appreciation " campaign started on January 1, 2019 to encourage the general public to give back to their creations. The so-called general public refers to people who are not technical enthusiasts, and may not even write, but are willing to support creation.

@高建The quote from the Appreciation Citizen 2.0 update can still summarize the main idea of the Appreciation Citizen. By providing an easy way for authors to support their favorite authors, it encourages creators to focus on their content without worrying too much about advertising and commercial partnerships. And actions to encourage creators to make their content available to everyone outside of paywalls.

Appreciated Citizens 2.0, updated a year ago, has not changed except for changing the monthly fee paid by readers to fully support a creator. For readers who are more accustomed to the classic mode, you can also subscribe to the "Citizens of Appreciation Classic" program that continues the old version of the appreciation of civic behavior.

Here's a statistic converted into U.S. dollars for all appreciated citizens' income from April 2020 to November 2021. As for the apparently abnormal peak in October, it was explained at the meeting that it encountered the problem of "black cards" (such as stolen or maliciously overdrafted credit cards) that merchants that accept credit card payments may have encountered. It then returned to normal levels the following month after tightening the credit card checking policy. (Of course, it is also possible to kill a lot of normal payments by mistake. For example, if we have two cards, it is inexplicably rejected, but it is very strange that the automatic payment is still normal.)

Assuming that the total income of Civic Liker is 13,000 USD per month, how many Likes will be issued per month and per day according to different conversion ratios? Here is a simulated graph of different conversion ratios and daily issuance.

It can be seen that with the gradual appreciation of LIKE against USD, the total amount of LIKE issued is decreasing. This is probably the motivation for changing the number of creative funds issued before the creation of the creative fund group. But the vast majority of people who eat melons don't care about this. For them, the most intuitive thing is "there are fewer LIKEs sent to me"...

The current goals of the Creation Fund are roughly:

  • Because the income of creators is obviously positively related to the number of admiring citizens (readers directly support authors with admiring citizens, and readers' input also affects the scale of creation funds.), it is necessary to encourage more readers to become admirers through the mechanism of creation funds. citizen.
  • Although it has been said that appreciation citizens have more power in the distribution of creation funds than ordinary Likers, if the gap between the two is narrowed a little, can more Likers experience the process of participating in the distribution of creation funds first, and then become appreciation citizens?

Review the current creative fund allocation strategy

The current creation fund allocation strategy, extracted from the code and converted into a more understandable word, is probably like this:

  • The total amount of LIKE issued every day is fixed within a certain period of time. For example, at the time of the meeting, it was about 11,000.
  • Appreciating citizens has a greater impact on distribution. This seems to have been mentioned in various promotional materials.
  • Standardize twice by Liker's individual and overall behavior. For example, if a Liker claps with different numbers of articles on different two days, the Likes from the creation fund for the articles she/he claps on will also be different. If it is generalized to all Likers...it should be about the same.
  • Specific weights for specific websites. Currently only Liker.Social has a different weight, which is 0.5. Adjustments are made on the premise of proactive suggestions.
  • Accounts that are clearly suspected to be operated by bots are blocked based on certain characteristics. Blocked accounts will not affect the distribution of the creation fund at all. But at present it seems that it will not block a Liker representing a specific author because of creative behavior (such as plagiarism, play version, etc.), if it really wants to do so, some other mechanisms may be introduced.

Of course, none of this is set in stone. If there is a better way of doing it under this framework, or if there is some way out of the framework, it's no problem to change these. For example, come up with a new distribution mechanism that does not rely on clapping at all. Of course, this span is a bit too big, and everyone has no idea. So it is very likely that the status quo will be maintained.

If the status quo is to be maintained, members must help to propose proposals on the chain. However, several members of the committee, including us, have experience in operating validator nodes, so it should not be a problem. (It's just that we have a problem with ourselves...)

Adjustment strategy for monthly budget

The current monthly budget is calculated by the number of LIKEs exchanged for the same amount of USDT, which is obviously a bit of a legal currency (stable currency) standard, right? So some members put forward a possibility that the distribution of the creation fund is no longer based on the amount of exchange, which is probably a decoupling.

Well... there may be no progress for a while, after all, not everyone can think in terms of currency. So I raised a slightly gentler question. What will be the basis for adjusting the distribution amount? Although everyone agreed to adjust according to the market price, the specific adjustment method and cycle are yet to be discussed. For example, it is unrealistic to adjust the market price in real time, because if the market price changes suddenly, it will repeat the same mistakes... Maybe at the end of every few months, according to the daily market price and the actual number of LikeCoins issued, when the difference reaches a certain value Post-threshold announcement adjustment maybe possible?

Co-construction of platforms to improve algorithms

There is also a new idea to promote the cooperation of LikeCoin with content creation platforms. For example, the platform weighting mechanism that has been used on Liker.Social is utilized to promote the introduction of platforms and promote LikeCoin to creators of their own platforms by increasing the distribution weights of platforms that support LikeCoin.

However, there are also different opinions worried that after the platform affects the allocation of creation funds, there will be a situation where users will flood into a platform with a higher share and create another center. Therefore, it is more inclined to encourage the author to be independent of the platform. For example, the share of the clapping on the LikeCoin floating frame on the author's own blog will be higher than that of a large platform. Perhaps there will be a standard to classify various platforms.

Decreasing the distribution weight of big platforms like Liker.Social might also be a way to encourage smaller and individual sites, and might reduce the labor cost of identifying various sites.

Suggestions for improvement of the clapping allocation mechanism

Suggestions and questions about the clap mechanism have been around for a long time. Discussions such as the threshold for clap is too high, social grouping, more monks and less porridge, and the pros and cons of content have never stopped. Regarding this part, the members also put forward several different suggestions.

  • Should we raise the threshold for obtaining creative funds? For example, use ISCN registration as a reference factor for obtaining creative funds.

Maybe I want to respond to some people's indignation that they can get so many creative funds because they have more friends and clap their hands, even though we are also professional nonsense writers (laughs). However, considering that the standards for "good articles" will not be exactly the same, if you really want to do this, you may need to set up a content arbitration committee to discuss the weight of various articles and so on.

And some members also reminded not to get caught in the essentialist debate about what is considered a good article and which is a waste article.

  • Is the current threshold for clapping... a little high?

For example, for Matters, you must have a Matters account associated with your Liker ID. When you clap your hands on the appreciation button in other places, a login window will pop up first. Some members mentioned that this requirement to log in may deter people who occasionally want to clap their hands. But if you want to make anonymous appreciation keys, you may have to face the problem of bots...

The idea I came up with while writing this today is that if Liker Land's browser extension can modify the thumbs up button on a web page, then as long as the user logs in in the extension, they might not need to log in again when opening the thumbs up button on other websites. Of course, we haven't written a browser extension, and I don't know if this will work...
  • An analysis of the composition of Appreciation Citizens points out that many Appreciated Citizens are actually creators... So it goes back to the original question of motivating more readers to become Appreciated Citizens.
  • Improvements to the mechanism to encourage content curation? The one mentioned at the moment is Super Like, although because only the praise citizens can be used for it is not very concerned. There may be discussions on the possibility of another mechanism to facilitate the recommendation of good content.

To be continued

The stand news and public news announced the outage during the New Year's Eve, which may also have a great impact on LikeCoin and the appreciation of the civil community. (The "Stance x Oursky" jointly maintained by Stand News and Oursky is one of the seven validators of LikeCoin Chain's creation. Many admiring citizens are also supporters of Stand News and Zhongxin.)

Thanks for their contributions to press freedom and LikeCoin.

So it's good to have a note, and many of the above contents are only remembered after seeing the notes I took down before...
