Also talk about WeChat and Weibo’s censorship and filtering mechanism for graphic content

The blogger is very careful, I also share my experience~

Both WeChat and Weibo will block text and pictures for keywords or keyword combinations, and will block them as soon as they are sent out, which is determined according to their respective sensitive word databases.

WeChat’s performance includes:

1. Group chat, others can't see what you post.

[Discovery method]: Both the mobile terminal and the desktop terminal are online. If you use the mobile terminal to send, then your desktop terminal is in the same sending and receiving state as others. If it is blocked, the desktop terminal cannot receive it, and vice versa. found it immediately.

[Solution]: The easiest way is to re-send the screenshot. At present, the standard for text recognition in the image is different from the standard for the text version itself, and the newly created image can be sent.

2. In the circle of friends, after you post it, all or some people cannot see it. Some people are suspected to be divided into two situations (this is still uncertain, for reference): (1) Those who registered with mainland mobile phone numbers and those who registered with overseas mobile phone numbers cannot see each other (specific events/specific periods, Hong Kong ip (2) People who are in frequent contact (such as family members) can see it, but people who are not in contact with it often can’t see it. This is rather abominable, and I can’t find it if I check with people around me, but this is just a guess. , lack of extensive experiments.

[Discovery method]: Wait for a while to see if anyone likes and replies; use another account to see. Btw, WeChat also exploded a number of accounts on a large scale a while ago, and it is necessary to register one more account.

Weibo performance includes:

1. "The content you publish does not conform to blabla" can't be sent directly anyway,

2. You publish it in the form of "public", but it is directly transferred to "only visible to yourself" or "only visible to friends" (the latter I have only encountered once, the former less than 100 times), these two functions are Weibo has its own, and the actual effect is that it is blocked.

[Discovery method]: (1) Check with another Weibo account that has followed this account, and you can find it immediately. You can log in to multiple Weibo accounts with your mobile phone, and it is easier to switch with one click. (2) Weibo will display the number of readings, which are "visible only by yourself", and the number of readings will stay at a small number, single digits or more than 20, which can be found within a minute or two.

[Solution]: If you send a thousand-character text, there may be too many combinations, and it will be very troublesome to investigate. It is recommended not to waste time, just use tools such as hammer notes and other tools to convert them into pictures and send them.

In addition, Weibo and WeChat also filter images, including two situations:

1. Identify the text in the picture through the picture reading software, and then shield it according to the identified sensitive words. However, as mentioned earlier, some content that cannot be sent in text can be sent after a screenshot. Perhaps the sensitive thesaurus in the two cases is different, or perhaps the image recognition text has a high typo rate? do not know.

[Solution]: Use homophonic, code and other expressions to replace sensitive words.

2. This is more common, by comparing images that have been classified as sensitive images. If it is the same picture, it is the easiest, the picture information is consistent, and it is shielded directly according to the md5 value and other information. Therefore, we often see that sometimes a picture is popular, and suddenly it can't be posted after it is passed on - it will be blocked in the circle of friends, and it will be down on Weibo.

[Solution]: If it is not a long picture, take a screenshot of the original picture again, which is equivalent to creating a new picture with the same length, and it can be sent. If it is a long picture, you can use it upside down, doodle, hit a horse, and all of the above. I have also seen pictures that are distorted. In short, it does not affect the reader's reading but interferes with machine recognition. (Suddenly thought, this is actually a lot of website registration with various distorted letter verification codes, it is a logic to identify whether you are a human or a machine! It turned out that when we registered Weibo, Weibo already gave us the strategy, we can only blame I didn't understand it myself...)

As for which one of WeChat and Weibo is more censored, my conclusion is: not necessarily. At present, what can be determined is that the two sensitive words and sensitive image libraries are different. One can post and the other cannot post each other. It depends on which one is unlucky; There are adjustments, it's not very good, and there's no need to compare it.

In addition, a team in Canada recently published a test of the rules for blocking pictures in WeChat Moments for reference: Chinese abstract version and English full text version
