Clubhouse Invited Social Proving Ground

In the past few weeks, Clubhouse began to spread wildly on the Internet from overseas and gradually spread to the Chinese social circle. I didn't think too much about it at first, after all, these days are also full of schedules. Unexpectedly, after reading recent articles on the Internet yesterday, I also found that this trend has also blown into various platforms and has become a hot topic of discussion.

So I opened the already downloaded app again to confirm that there was no problem, and started researching to see if there was any way to speed up the "entering the circle".

Coincidentally, around 6:30 in the evening, it was a wave of traditional social media posts, and I saw an article that also introduced the background story of Clubhouse, and the title of course was the eye-catching "Clubhouse invitation code xxxxxx, we decided to make a Relay activity~". With a curious mind, after joining this WeChat group, I have experienced a crazy small social experiment since then.

Just after joining the group, the original social media editor established a basic rule, please use WeChat's "group relay" function to leave your information on it. From the beginning, the group quickly grew to nearly 200 people. Then the ideal theory is: Xiaobian passes his invitation to the first queuing person. After the first queuing person is invited, theoretically, he will get two invitation opportunities and invite the next two. From then on, it can be divided into two parts. Two, two are divided into four, four are divided into eight... This should soon be able to solve the needs of all group reasoners.

Is it a perfect theory?

However, as long as there are "people", there are bound to be various unpredictable problems. While this group is still absorbing new people into it, those who enter the group start to be overwhelmed by all kinds of messy conversations. When the invitation relay reached the fifth place, it took two hours.

That's right, a full 120 minutes. Briefly talk about the background of this invitation system. First of all, because the name of the app is called Clubhouse, we hope to create a "Club" feeling, that is, you must have an invitation letter or someone you know to bring you in. Every user who registers into Clubhouse can have two invitation opportunities. The way of this invitation is not to give you a string of garbled characters or some kind of designated link, but to invite a contact in your mobile phone address book. The original intention of the design is to hope that such growth and fission methods all have a chain of "acquaintances". (That is, a certain Growth Hack method is used behind this mechanism, so that the growth and spread of the app is not the well-known direct registration method, but a slightly slow acquaintance invitation method~)

Because of this, the current few invitees have received invitations, which means that they must exist in the mobile phone address book of the person who sent the invite.

The second limitation is that the app is currently only available on the iOS version of the iPhone. Another world's android camp has not yet completed the opening method, so if you are using an android phone, sorry please wait.

The third limitation is that the Clubhouse app is not currently available for download in the Chinese app store, and this social media is mainly for Chinese users.

Clubhouse download rankings in various countries and regions. Data sourced from App Annie analytics statistics. The number is the ranking, and the smaller the number, the higher the ranking.

The basis of the above three basic rules is not necessarily pure "starvation marketing". Because the Silicon Valley project is in the process of development, it should be said that most of the small entrepreneurial teams will use the most efficient manpower to adjust their product direction, so it is not necessarily like a large platform with abundant engineering and technical teams. The same will not have a strong background capacity to cope with a large amount of network traffic burst.

Going back to the group just now, when this article was sent out, due to the inductiveness of the title and the frantic mentality of netizens, a large number of people rushed into this group. Even those who do not use iPhone, those who use iPhone without pre-installing the app, and the last factor that is not friendly to the majority of users: the user interface in English. This has caused many netizens who hadn't thought about it clearly to join the queue, only to find out that it can't be used at all.

Therefore, many people queuing up in the group are not at all "with the right conditions" to join, even if they are invited, they can only be in a daze. Some people have an iPhone, and as a result, the iOS operating system version is not updated due to various factors, and they cannot download the app. Some people also have a sufficient version of the iOS operating system for their iPhones, but they don't have app store accounts in non-China regions, so they still can't download.

At this time, many people in the group began to become "hatred generators", and they treated these unqualified people with some words. Those who have obtained the invitation qualification will have a vacuum period because they need to operate the app for a period of time before they can return to the group to speak. It also makes the group friends feel that they are being released as pigeons?

I saw that the atmosphere in the group became more and more chaotic and negative, and the progress was almost stagnant. Finally, around 11 o'clock in the middle of the night, the invitation chain continued to be broken.

And what about the group leader? Don't forget that the community editors are also working people. They disappeared as early as seven or eight o'clock, leaving the group in a "chaotic state". At this time, some group friends began to question the unscientific and inefficient use of this solitaire method, and some people began to miss the cooperation of other apps in other ways, which seemed to be more efficient, and there were many people who complained, vented their temper, and quit the group.

At this time, an enthusiast organized all the Solitaire data into a complete collaborative document, and let the surviving active people update their status again in the group.

This document is like an online Excel. Every user can go up and make changes, and every change can be traced back, and the file can be traced back to the previous version record, so as not to be arbitrarily adjusted. Due to the functional limitations of the original Solitaire, not only did some people have multiple rows of No. 1, but there were also many people who were invalid and did not have detailed information. Through the way of sharing files and collaborating, it is really clear at a glance.

Slowly everyone came to a consensus that this file was the mainstay, and the order was slowly rediscovered. But the biggest problem at this time is that no one has the qualification to invite!

After a night of tossing, when I woke up the next day, I saw that the group was still in chaos. So after the breakfast time, I began to actively serve as a volunteer host in this group. The first is to call the number to ensure that the invitee is still active in it, so that the person will be directly disconnected after being invited and become a dead end. Then, the only invitation qualifications for a few still enthusiastic group friends were sent to those who were still active in order. Slowly, the order was established. As soon as the group of friends saw the dawn, they slowly obeyed this method, and felt self-reliant and waited in order.

The biggest feeling is that people have a good side and an evil side. If the disorderly state is allowed to develop, everyone hides behind the screen, so unscrupulously becomes a worse state. Verbal violence and disappointment and abuse are normal reactions. But if there is a little bit of kindness, the same group expectation will stimulate everyone's teamwork heart, and finally let everyone follow the rules with a rational attitude.

I spent about two hours in high concentration in front of the computer, which was free and had no benefit. Even when I finally left the computer to make my own itinerary, I still hadn't received an invitation to myself. Walking in the sunny outdoors and interacting with strangers in the real world, recalling this wonderful social experiment experience is also worth recording.
