Taiwan history not covered in mainland history textbooks

Among the languages of mainland China, Taiwan is an integral part of China. One of the arguments is to look up history. In middle school history textbooks, it is generally mentioned that as early as the Three Kingdoms period, Sun Quan sent people to the island of Taiwan. After that, the Yuan Dynasty officially set up administrative agencies to govern Taiwan, and then Zheng Chenggong drove out the Dutch colonists to recover Taiwan. Emperor Kangxi then defeated the Zheng family. Later, the Treaty of Shimonoseki ceded Taiwan to Japan. After World War II, the Nationalist government took back Taiwan. By 1949, the Kuomintang reactionaries were driven to Taiwan. Interestingly, Taiwan history has basically disappeared from history textbooks after 1949.

In sharp contrast, the history of the mainland after 1949, that is, the history of the People's Republic of China, is the focus of history textbooks. In it, I also mentioned a few words about Taiwan, including the shelling of Kinmen, Taiwan being expelled from the United Nations, and Deng Xiaoping's proposal for peaceful reunification and one country, two systems. Besides, is there anything else? In my opinion, it doesn't seem to be there. What happened in Taiwan after 1949? It is almost impossible to find in mainland history textbooks. It is said that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China, but the history of Taiwan after 1949 is not seen in history textbooks. When I was in middle school, it wasn't in the history textbook. I checked the current middle school history textbook on the Internet, and it seems that there is still no one. In contrast, Taiwan's history curriculum includes the history of the People's Republic of China.

In 1949, the Nationalist government held Taiwan to the present. Is this a blank history? Apart from being bombarded and kicked out of the United Nations, nothing major happened? Any history can be roughly divided into political, economic and cultural aspects. In terms of politics, how did the Nationalist government gain a firm foothold after taking Taiwan? How to deal with the relationship with the West? How to deal with the relationship with the mainland? How to go to democratization? What happened to the Beautiful Island incident? Economically, how did Taiwan's economy take off? What economic measures have been taken? What has been achieved? In terms of culture, at least it can cover the history of Taiwanese literature, film history, and even the history of popular music. Even someone with a non-historical background like me could list this much. Experts who write history textbooks, how many chapters of Taiwan history will you not be able to write?

So, why is the history of Taiwan after 1949 hardly mentioned in the history textbooks for middle schools in mainland China? If Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, does Taiwan history after 1949 belong to Chinese history? If it is Chinese history, it is not compiled into modern Chinese history. Even if we want to focus on the history of the People's Republic of China, is it inappropriate to narrate the history of Taiwan after 1949 in a separate chapter? According to the party's cognition, it may be really inappropriate. The mainland condemns the DPP for revising history textbooks and downplaying Chinese history. In fact, we don't know Taiwan's history either.
