【Rainbow Store】In recent years, more and more international brands and multinational companies have launched gender-friendly products and services. In order to encourage local shops to join the ranks of supporting the sex/gender minority, and to allow the allies of the sex/gender minorities scattered in the community to exert more influence, G-Spot convened local rainbow shops during Pride Month in June to take the initiative to register their information to join the "Hong Kong Sexuality" / Do not niche friendly store database" (hereinafter referred to as "database"). After a month of sorting, the "Database" was officially launched today (August 1). 57 stores participated in the first round of registration. Which industry and region do they come from? What is sex / not niche friendly?

Online database can be searched by region and industry

The first-round registered store industry is very diverse and is temporarily divided into 20 categories. Most of them are related to body, mind and food, with 9 stores each. Food and beverage stores include: vegetarian food stores, dessert stores, craft beer stores. The second is the sex toy store, there are 8 each; the most unexpected thing for the editor is that there are actually a Chinese medicine hall, a job search platform, a fitness center, and a recent hot NFT production company!

Readers can search for suitable stores by region and industry in the "Database" . Click to enter the store introduction page, there will also be store introduction, address and contact methods such as social media and email.

Most brick-and-mortar stores in Kowloon

It's hot and don't want to go out? Let's move to the online store! Some of the stores in the database operate on the online platform, there is always one suitable for you. In terms of physical stores, most of the physical stores are located in Kowloon District, with 21 stores, probably because the rent is affordable and the transportation is convenient? Hong Kong Island and the New Territories are the same.

What counts as being sexual/not niche friendly?

When registering to join, the store owner can choose how to achieve gender/gender minority friendliness in the business among the eight gender/gender minority practice suggestions. There is also an "Other" field for the store owner to fill in the store's eight suggestions. other contributions.

The eight practical recommendations offered by G-Spot include:

  1. Gender/gender minorities are one of our main customer groups, and some or all of the products/services in the store are designed for gender/gender minorities
  2. We welcome gender/gender niche customers and ensure that customers are not discriminated against based on gender/gender status
  3. We employ or are willing to employ gender/gender minority employees and ensure that employees are not discriminated against in the workplace on the basis of gender/gender identity
  4. We have gender/gender-friendly service training or day-to-day guidance for our staff
  5. We have prominently displayed or posted labels, stickers or promotional materials related to sexuality/gender minorities in our stores
  6. On the web and social media, we are willing to take the initiative to speak up, share and forward issues and activities related to gender/gender minorities
  7. We have launched or are willing to develop rainbow goods or services for gender/gender minorities
  8. We support gender/sex minority equality and have participated in or sponsored gender/sex minority events in the name of the store (Gay Parade, Pink Dot, etc.)

According to the results, all stores chose the second option, indicating that customers with a gender/gender minority are not welcome. In addition, nearly 80% of the stores are willing to speak up and share relevant information for the gender/gender minority online. (The editor said privately that I hope that each store can share more articles on G-spot and defeat Zuckerberg's algorithm together!)

Internally, more than half of the stores employ or are willing to employ gender/gender minority employees and ensure that employees will not be discriminated against. Some shop owners even said that they are a member of the gender/gender minority, so they pay more attention to the friendliness of the gender/gender minority.

Point G believes that there is no uniform standard for gender/gender friendliness. We tend to value the initiative of store owners, and believe that in the absence of official thresholds, stores have more room to create more diverse gender/gender-friendly practices. The store introduction page of the database lists the practice methods of the store, and the audience can choose according to their own needs or standards.

What's next for Rainbow Stores...

In just three weeks (from June 8 to June 30), more than 50 stores have volunteered to join the first round of registration of the "Hong Kong Gender/Nature Minority Friendly Store Database" , far exceeding expectations. However, this is just the beginning, we will open the second round of registration from now on, allowing more people to join the ranks of Rainbow Stores. ( press me to register )

In order to make it easier for the store to express its supportiveness or not to be a minority, G-dot has designed several rainbow store IG stickers, which can be applied by searching IG story for "rainbowstorehk" or "gdottv". We will also launch rainbow mark stickers later for physical stores to freely display in prominent locations in the store, so that rainbows can be seen in daily life.

Point G hopes to gather support for the gender/sex minority community through the "Hong Kong Gender/Sex Minority Friendly Store Database", and also encourages fellow travelers to find partners from it to promote gender/sex minority equality, so that the rainbow in scattered communities Forces are linked together for greater impact.
