The "Kyoto Railway Museum" opened on April 29, 2016. Its basic concept is "a railway cultural base that works hand in hand with the region" to reveal "contributing to the revitalization of the region through business activities centered on railways." As a museum, it aims to cooperate with the area, such as school education, surrounding facilities, etc., while contributing to the revitalization of the area, becoming a "rest place" for the public, and becoming a "viewing, contact, and experience". A "learning place" that anyone can enjoy.

In addition, based on the history of railway construction by predecessors, we strive to inherit, develop, and create its safety, technology, and culture, and try to let the public understand the social significance of the railway industry while becoming a museum full of sensibility and intellectuality that shoulders some social responsibilities. Various cultural events are held that allow railway fans and a wide range of tourists to enjoy and learn more about railways, such as guided tours conducted by museum employees and seminars conducted by JR West employees in the museum.

Finally, the museum systematically collects and preserves materials, is committed to investigation, research, display, and education and popularization activities, and shoulders the responsibility of assisting in the preservation and inheritance of railway cultural heritage.

Opening hours: 10:00～17:00 (admission is until 16:30)

Closed every Wednesday (open as usual on national holidays)

Tickets: Full admission (over 18 years old) 1,500 yen

College students and high school students 1,300 yen

Junior high school students and elementary school students 500 yen

Toddlers (over 3 years old) 200 yen
