【2021】10 Best Encounters and Notes

1. "Hiroshima Love" 1-1. "Destruction, She Said" 1-2. "Paris Belongs to Us" 2. "Osmanthus Lane" 3. "The Bride of Frankenstein" 4. "Diet Men and Women" 5. "28" Countdown to Heaven's Destruction" 6. "Dugray Street Scenery" 7. "Suzaku" 8. "Yiqi Mountain Forest" 9. "My Mother" 10. "Red Pig"

I watched 144 films (including short films) last year. Many of them are not new films, but they are still beautiful encounters. 2021 can be a separate chapter . Especially for theaters, film festivals, and streaming in the epidemic era, make a note.

The following deducts the Li Miya (unmarried mother, evening news, girls' school), Hamaguchi Ryusuke's "Happy Hour", which have been discussed in the special article, and the Jin Min animation series "Delusional Agent" that needs to be discussed separately.

The ranking does not have much meaning and is convenient for article description. Published on Medium on the same day as water echoes .

1. Hiroshima mon amour 1959|Aaron Resnais

*2021 Taipei Literature and Film Festival

I got "an experience that can only be found in theaters". Just record the original Facebook post here:

I encountered technical problems while watching the film, and there was no sound for several times. The staff replayed the film at the wrong time for the first time, and finally replayed the clips of "Hiroshima Love" three times in total. The part that is repeated three times is the film being filmed in the film. The French crew filmed an international peace film in Hiroshima and filmed "some mass movement scenes" the day before the actress returned to France.
So, I looked back at the appeals on the hand-raised card three times in total. Including math puzzles "One atomic bomb is equal to 30,000 ordinary bullets, one hydrogen bomb is equal to 1,500 atomic bombs, how many blablas are there in 40,000 atomic bombs now?" "Human science has progressed, but political ability has not kept up, so we have lost our respect" and so on (I read it three times and still can't count it and can't remember)
Then these appeal boards are all performances in the film's "French crew in Hiroshima filming an international peace film". After the camera shot the crowd, I shot the cameras in the film, and then I went back to shoot the hero and heroine walking through the crowd in the performance...why are you so dizzy?
Then the film festival refunded my money. I am really thankful that I have been very poor recently. This replay episode is really a good way to resist forgetting (???)

Under the blessing of "Dead Theater Sense", the Literary Film Festival enters and meets the love films, which are mentioned here by the way.

  • 1–1. Destroy, She Said 1969|Margaret Juhas
  • 1–2. Paris Belongs to Us 1961 | Jacques Hivert

2. "Osmanthus Alley" (Osmanthus Alley) 1987|Chen Kunhou

*Taiwanese version, digital dimming version special screening

For the special screening at the National Film Center, I am different from the vast majority of the audience. They have all seen the Chinese version earlier, and they were very moved when they saw "Real Osmanthus Lane" which was originally produced in Taiwanese. And I just saw the Taiwanese version, we are really lucky. After listening to the theme song for so long, now when I see the original movie, it is genuine. The female perspective, Taiwanese language and moving plots of that era. I was invited because I wrote a film review of Li Mimi's works. It is also Taiwan in the 1980s. It is a beautiful thing to watch movies in 2021 in terms of regions, languages, and classes.

3. Bride of Frankenstein 1935 | James Whale

*2021 Golden Horse Film Festival

After watching Frankenstein, I watched it again, the sequel was so much better than the original, I even cried when Frankenstein learned the word "Friend" and blind people were touched. So fantastic.

4. Eat Drink Man Woman 1994|Ang Lee

*Giloo

There are really excellent Taiwanese movies, and I will review them slowly in the stream. Aiwujiwu, I also went to see a musical, and I was pissed. In addition, I went to the Yuanshan Hotel by fate, and there is this film on the historical wall. The script and scenes are very strong, so convincing, but not curious.

5. 28 Days Later 2002 | Danny Bowie

*Fridays trial period due to the epidemic situation

A special review of the three-level alert, and the hidden ending was discovered because of the streaming, intercepted from Facebook:

The ending of the theater is that after the hero and heroine and the little girl escape from the institution ruled by a group of pedantic soldiers, the three of them drive away; after many years, they switch to the bright country scene, and live an ordinary life, and persevere every time the plane flies through the sky At that time, he pulled up the banner "SOS" on the grass to ask for help, and lived with a glimmer of hope. This ending is mediocre.
The hidden ending is that the heroine drove to the hospital to rescue the seriously injured hero when the time and space went back to the moment when the three escaped from the institution. She and the little girl persevered to rescue the hero, but the man still died in the hospital bed. The little girl asked "What should we do?", the woman replied "We move."
Not long ago, they were forced to wear red sexy dresses to dedicate themselves to the pedantic soldiers in the shelter, and although they escaped from the clutches later, they could not save the hero. Finally, he stepped out of the hospital, but without looking back, he took up the weapon and returned to the cruel world. There is no need, no time to twist, no need to pay attention to the sexy coats imposed by men, just move on.
The days are just moving forward. Sections are also constructions.

6. Daguerréotype 1976|Anne Valda

*Giloo

Intricate, vulgar and attractive, straightforward but not cruel. If a documentary has any advantages over a feature film, this film tells me part of it.

7. Suzaku 1997|Naomi Kawase

*Giloo

After watching "Funeral Forest" and "Dawn is Coming" in Golden Horse in 2020, this year, "Moe: Suzaku" felt more perfect, and after watching it, I liked the three together and established my trust in Kawase Naomi. .

8. Fire At Forest 2020|Xu Hongcai

*Spotlight Myanma Online Screening Unit of " Cooperative Collective "

If a documentary has any advantages over a feature film, this film tells me part of it. From Taipei University, the protagonist returns to Myanmar, and the ending is a simple and cruel short beauty, which directly raises several levels.

9. Todo sobre mi madre (Todo sobre mi madre) 1999|Pedro Almodovar

*Spot Taipei Classic Digital Restoration

The movie ticket is a story with twists and turns: I first bought a Meimei commemorative package with someone, but I was overworked, busy, and afraid of wasting, so I gave it to a friend first, and then the friend came back and told me, "You will want to be there. I saw this movie earlier in my life, not later.” So I rushed to buy a new ticket to watch it in the last few days, and then I was so touched that my mood turned positive. Similar to the theme, on the other hand, I watched "King of Men" with drag queens at the Titan Hall in the same year at the Fantastic Film Festival. The K-singer experience was good, but the film was terrible.

10. Porco Rosso 1992|Hao Miyazaki

*A certain streaming platform

Because I used Letterboxd to review and found that this is the film I watched on January 1, 2021. As the beginning of the year, it will be placed at the end of this article. Porcupine is an almost perfect work. It is not easy to use the "pig/human" group on the same character side by side, but Hayao Miyazaki can use it without embarrassment or discord. Porcupine is so naturally handsome, even if he laughs at himself, he is not pitiful. , there is not a single "pig/human" comparison that will make the audience too sympathetic, because we will even forget that this will be a comparison, there will be a "return to normal", and this is war, or even an epidemic. I am very fortunate that I met "Porcupine" at this point in time.
