Some wounds can never be healed

(edited)
Life is too weak, some things can't be overcome just can't be overcome, so we have to hang there all the time. As long as he can survive, why force him to overcome? Not forcing people to overcome is also a kind of tenderness and compassion.

Finally watched the 2016 unanimously praised "Manchester by the Sea" on Netflix (Hong Kong translation of "Love City by the Sea"; this is Manchester City in the United States, not Manchester City in the United Kingdom), 98% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, But it is a literary film and should not suit the taste of Hong Kong people, and it was not mentioned much in those days. After reading it, I think it's OK. I don't like it very much, but the theme is very good. It reminds me of Zhao Ting Nomadland's last mention of some pain in life and can't get out of it, but if you can't get out, you can't get out.

The actor's house was burned down due to a domestic accident, and his three children were burned alive. When he made a confession at the police station and realized that he didn't have to bear any criminal responsibility and could leave immediately, he couldn't accept it, and even grabbed the police gun and tried to commit suicide. You can imagine how heartbroken he was.

Then the marriage was ruined, he exiled himself to Boston, did a low job, lived in a cramped room, and since then he was a talkative, reticent, socially incapable, depressed but prone to anger and fights. A few years later, due to the death of his brother, he was forced to return to the town to take care of his wife. Of course, there were a lot of problems, not to mention.

The point is that this film does not follow the pattern of warmth and positive energy, so that he can finally get out of the haze. The ex-wife met by chance on the road and wanted to invite him to lunch, but he was too heartbroken to face her anymore. The two stood on the road and cried to each other about that scene, and the audience should also cry. But even so, he refused to meet her again. He can't get over it.

In the end, he settled his concubine's life, and after completing his responsibilities, he returned to Boston to continue his life. Even though he prepared a room for his concubine in his new residence, so that he could come and visit him at any time, there seemed to be a little more warmth in the haze. But if he couldn't overcome it in the past, he couldn't overcome it. He still lived a repressed life of exile, but he probably wouldn't commit suicide by grabbing a police gun again.

Life is too weak, some things can't be overcome just can't be overcome, so we have to hang there all the time. As long as he can survive, why force him to overcome? Not forcing people to overcome is also a kind of tenderness and compassion.

Allowing the problem to remain unsolved makes the film full of realism and depth.
