The Evolution of My Understanding of the Continental Political System (4)

There is a comic attached to the previous post. The characters in the comics were all knocked down during the Cultural Revolution. I believe their names are not known to the vast majority of Hong Kong, Austrian and Taiwanese. Interestingly, young mainlanders are not familiar with them. Today, the Cultural Revolution is only a concept in the mainland, but it has no content. The post-80s and post-90s in mainland China were covered by an invisible big hand. Ten years later, as a result of a coup, all the characters in the comics were rehabilitated. Take Liu Shaoqi as an example. Before his death, he was a traitor, a scab, and a traitor. At the memorial service, he became a great Marxist, a great proletarian revolutionary, statesman, theorist, and a major party and state leader. Putting such an extreme set of concepts on the same person, the CCP is joking with the people of the mainland!

The Cultural Revolution was the most tragic stage of the CCP's political meat grinder. "Peng Luo Lu Yang", "Sanjia Village", "Liu Dengtao", "Wang Guanqi", "Yang Yufu", "Huang Wu Ye Li Qiu", "Gang of Four" were defeated one by one. Connected to this is the charcoal of life. The "military fighting" of the rebels resulted in the death of a large number of civilians. The Lin Biao incident has dealt a heavy blow to senior CCP officials. They suddenly realized that the Cultural Revolution was unsustainable. After Mao Zedong's death, his "successor" Hua Guofeng, instigated by the old army chief, staged a coup d'etat and sent the far-left forces within the CCP to prison. Soon the Cultural Revolution was declared over. Hua Guofeng is a kind person. If it wasn't for the urgency of the "Gang of Four", he might not have used a knife or gun. It's just that the mantis flutters at the cicada, and the oriole is behind. In the end, Hua Guofeng handed over the power to Liu Deng's faction who had been defeated. The ten-year Cultural Revolution has brought huge disasters to mainland China. The faction of Liu and Deng, who had been defeated at this time, and even some leftists had a profound understanding of the causes and consequences of the Cultural Revolution. Take former Central Propaganda Minister Lu Dingyi, for example. So many years in prison made him realize the scourge of the CCP's autocracy and dictatorship to the entire nation. This is a great time to liquidate the Cultural Revolution. Yet the reckoning done by the CCP is far from complete. It can even be said to be a legacy. Deng Xiaoping, who was in power at the time, proposed a total denial of the Cultural Revolution. But he didn't want to throw away Mao Zedong's signboard. In order to avoid damage to the ruling position of the Communist Party due to the liquidation of the Cultural Revolution. Here comes a problem. There are many hills in the Communist Party. But to the common people they are one. I don't think Deng Xiaoping couldn't see Mao Zedong's fault. On the contrary, Deng Xiaoping knew Mao Zedong very well. In times of low morale, we all worked together. He can't overturn a boat with a single pole. After dealing with a few scourges, everyone will have to eat rice in a pot. In the final analysis, it is the selfishness of one party, and the party in the world. In the end, Mao Zedong was not liquidated. But Deng Xiaoping turned a decade of resentment against Mao Zedong into punishment for Jiang Qing. He wanted to kill Jiang Qing. If it wasn't for Chen Yun's call to keep people under the sword, Jiang Qing would have sacrificed himself for justice. At present, Deng Xiaoping's rhetoric against the Cultural Revolution has become a historical document. The latest argument argues that the Cultural Revolution was a grueling quest. In a more ancient historical document, Mao Zedong said that the Cultural Revolution should be repeated every seven or eight years. In the current context of "hatred of the rich" and "hatred of officials", are you ready for another Cultural Revolution?

In my memory, the people's reflection on the Cultural Revolution is reflected in two aspects. One is "scar literature", and the other is a big/small-character poster discussing politics. The former mainly accused the dictatorship during the Cultural Revolution of the harm to the people. The CCP is also the first and foremost about works such as "scar literature". The CCP wants to use these works to attack the leftists (ever faction), but they are afraid of causing popular upheaval. This is in line with the incomplete liquidation of the Cultural Revolution mentioned earlier. I remember that Bai Hua's "Bitter Love" was banned because of this. The discussion of the political system among the people is also surging. I remember that the Xidan Democracy Wall was very active. This is where Wei Jingsheng became famous. Although the CCP promised to implement democratic politics during the Yan'an period, I knew then that discussing this topic would lead to disaster. However, all kinds of political gossip about the high-level CCP is widely circulated. The first time I heard Zhang Yufeng's name was during this period. At that time, everyone was very confused. At this time, Deng Xiaoping turned his attention to the West.

Disputes between China and the United States continue today. However, in the 1970s, the CCP was often complacent about the fact that China and the United States promoted the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries through the exchange of visits between the two countries’ table tennis teams. At that time, China and the United States had a common strong enemy - the Soviet Union. The Americans hoped that the Chinese would help him disperse some of the Soviet military pressure in Europe. The Chinese wanted to import military technology and equipment from the United States against the Soviets. In 1979, China and the United States formally established diplomatic relations. Both sides paid for it. The Chinese annoyed Lao Kim and the Vietnamese. Americans abandoned their Taiwanese friends. At least before '64, Sino-US relations were very good. In 1979, Deng Shaoping in Vietnam was the first to inform the Americans. After the fight, the whole West pretended to be deaf and dumb. After the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the Americans, together with the Chinese, provided arms to the Afghan resistance groups. Despite the constraints of the Paris Coordination, China's navy and air force still receive a lot of technology from the United States. Otherwise, the "Bureau" would not tell so many stories on CCTV. In addition, Deng Xiaoping also filmed senior officials to examine the Western parliamentary system. It is a pity that he did not have the courage to implement democratic politics. Deng Xiaoping had the opportunity to enter the history textbook with a positive image.
