【Letter from Hong Kong】To maintain the strength of Hong Kong people, we must first get rid of our bad habits

Whether other people are ghosts, scholars do not know. Scholars only know that everyone has a "ghost" in their hearts more or less. Hong Kong people must practice cultivation, and not let the "ghosts" in their hearts enlarge, cannibalizing themselves and the strength of Hong Kong people.

Yesterday there was a dispute over the copyright of "May Glory". Today, Guoan arrested more people, and Wenhui reported on the front page that "Huang Si is not evenly divided between ghosts and ghosts." This slaps us hard again. The movement may be over, but 2019 is never over.

"May Glory" is ostensibly caused by the DGX team's "greed for money", but if you pay attention to the beginning of the incident, you will find that this controversy stems from some people who think that the "Time Revolution" film team and Director Zhou are "big stage", and they are different from the previous ones. The famous social star (now mainly international) has a close relationship, so it triggers the imagination of "big stage swept the water".

So some people will not find out whether the film team is really making money, and then send out quite extreme IG Story and "black police" metaphors - since the other party wants to rebuild the "big stage" and absorb the halo to make money, it is naturally not a "real fellow traveler" , of course "no different from the black police", and naturally it should be vigorously condemned.

In the final analysis, this is an inevitable phenomenon of "infighting and internal friction" after the failure of the movement. This was the case after 2014, and the same is true today in 2019. In a tense environment, most people are willing to do their best to abide by the principle of "Brothers climb the mountain, work hard", but when the exercise is over, the strength begins to dissipate, and this model and imagination become unsustainable.

Everyone began to use "skeptical eyes" and "cynic language" to conduct online activities again. After 2014, the “Left and Right Debate” seems to have disappeared, but in fact, it has made a comeback, but it has changed its appearance. The spectrum, team, and community disputes have become more complex and changeable than ever, and they are also more intense and fragile. After 8964, the Chinese democracy movement team eventually became a mess. Will Hong Kong repeat the same mistakes?

Some social activists said that "basic norms" should be established to make resource allocation more fair and transparent, and related disputes may be eased. However, the difficulty of this suggestion is that if there is no big platform, it is difficult for these so-called normative rules to have substantive constraints. In this era, if you want to build a big platform, fellow travelers may oppose (or disagree), and the political environment does not allow it (local organizations).

In the end, I can only say the word "trust". Whoever believes in sincerely doing practical things for Hong Kong and whoever is trying to fish in troubled waters is only to make money from Hong Kong people and protest. But the movement disappeared, and trust among fellow travelers fell to new lows. "He's a ghost", "He's plundering oil and water", "He's eating human blood and steamed buns", each organization or mountain is either overtly or covertly accusing the other of what is wrong, and at the same time claiming that they are the ones who are truly good for Hong Kong.

If these accusations were exchanged for the most violent period of sports, they would definitely be attacked by the crowd, "there is no capital to split again", because the opponent's plan to "pull one faction and fight another faction". But now that the campaign is over, we have stopped ourselves, and we thought that the opponents have stopped, but in fact, the opponents have been continuing to do things, and as a result, we have forgotten our original intentions and why the slogan of "unity" came from.

To be honest, the scholar personally also strongly felt the change in the atmosphere of public discussion in Hong Kong in the past six months, and it began to change back to personal resentment and cynicism. Peanuts are the happiest. This is the bad habit and personality of Hong Kong people: arrogant, self-righteous, cunning, pumping water, eating peanuts. If you don't agree with one word, you will fire. Different thoughts/spectrums are the enemy. You can't even reason and communicate well. Whether it is in the social movement circle, the yellow circle or any emerging small circle, there are always a lot of such people. This is indeed a common characteristic of Hong Kong people.

As for the future of the Hong Kong social movement circle, to be honest, scholars have no solution. Even if there is a grand and effective direction, to implement it, it still needs the coordination of the time, geography and people. At present, we can't even pass the "personnel trust" test, let alone establish norms and develop well.

"Being yourself" is the only creed of scholars at present, and I also hope that everyone will "be yourself". The so-called good self is to get rid of all the bad habits mentioned above: think about whether you are biased, often self-righteous, thinking that only you are doing real things, thinking that your thoughts are correct, and the rest are either stupid or ghosts; Every time you leave a message or speak, think about the tone and way of speaking, whether you are aiming to elevate yourself, belittle or attack others, rather than seek communication and reasoning.

As long as these points are done well, I believe that the Internet and social movement circles have undergone earth-shaking changes. To discuss any major rules, major reforms, and major development, there must be "trust" and "communication" as the premise. You may have a good time talking with people in your circle, but to get out of the comfort zone of your circle, discuss and cooperate with others, you must learn to communicate and be generous.

Of course, this kind of practice is by no means easy. You have to let go of your face, your fame, your ego, and "how much you have done for Hong Kong." The scholar has gone through a lot of things before he can learn a thing or two, and he is still studying hard.

But to achieve great things, the pattern and bearing of a person must be great. Let's share.
