Talking about cross-strait cultural self-confidence from self-media water quality

Hello everyone, I'm Marley

I didn’t prepare the content of this issue originally. Since I posted the issue about how to view Taiwan rationally, I mentioned some rough feelings about the cross-strait self-media. Immediately, many friends from the mainland expressed their dissatisfaction, and said that there are also many outstanding people in the mainland. The self-media, why don't you say it, and then gave me a bunch of examples. He also asked me if I hadn't seen station B. Let me explain a little here. I am the first batch of Internet users and online video users in China. I have experienced from the campus FTP era to BT, to eDonkey, to 56, to Tudou, to AB station, and then to the later copyright and UGC. After the rise of a large-scale video portal, he also worked for several years in the domestic mainstream video SP/CP field. It is no exaggeration to say that the videos I have watched may be longer than the Internet age of some unconvinced netizens. Well, let’s stop here for the background introduction.

So some of the channels you mentioned, some I have watched, some I really don't know or are not interested in. Of course I believe there are a lot of good channels out there, so don't worry.

What I mean is that it is not that the mainland has no excellent self-media, but Taiwan is all excellent. In other words, whether it is excellent or not, whether you like it or not is a subjective evaluation, so there is nothing to argue about. What I really want to express is the attitude of most or common content producers on both sides of the strait towards the self-media industry. Speaking of which, there are bound to be gangsters who will jump out and say, what is the majority, what is the universal, and what is your basis? OK, let me explain here that I am not doing academic papers and industry analysis reports, so I do not need to do rigorous data analysis for you, nor do I require you to believe what I say.

First of all, I feel that there is never a shortage of creative talents in our country, but we do not have the soil for these talents to grow freely. There are policy reasons, personal reasons, and public preferences.

Let's take one of the areas with the most traffic from the media as an example. Friends who are a little older should still remember "Hu Ge". At that time, his spoof of the mantou blood case still caused quite a stir among the people on both sides of the strait and three places. , can be regarded as the originator of self-made short films. Later, due to the lawsuit dispute with Chen Kaige and the pressure of public opinion, he also slowly faded out of sight. It is no exaggeration to say that he should have opened up a direction in the field of domestic spoofs, so that, like the 100,000 cold jokes that followed, I never imagined that these domestic IPs could be industrialized, and even active in the hundreds of thousands of people on station B. The UP master of Wan Fan's Tucao style is actually more or less influenced by this style. When a Hu Ge fell, there were no people who subverted Hu Ge, but a large number of imitators or improved imitators. I didn't find anything new. After so many years, they even retreated. Of course, it's not all the creator's problem. At least one thing is that the content has a framework in terms of form and policy. With a framework, people will never be able to jump out or dare not jump out of the established thinking mode. What other people feed you, you eat whatever. Even a lot of Hollywood blockbusters that are introduced now, except for fighting and killing special effects, I don't think it is worth such a high ticket price.

Second, when it comes to the content, many people have mentioned that Li Ziqi is very proud of being our original light. What I want to ask is how many of you who cite Li Ziqi as an example have heard of Li Ziqi a month ago. , How many of you have seriously watched her videos? How many of them were turned around by those domestic articles before they were led to know about her. Of course, Li Ziqi's video is objectively good from content to production. I can't make it anyway, but it doesn't seem to suit my taste.

I bet that after Li Ziqi becomes popular, a large number of Zhang Ziqi will appear, and Liu Ziqi will spring up like bamboo shoots after the rain. In the past few years, the traffic of eating, drinking and playing was not bad, so a swarm of people made videos of eating, drinking and playing. In recent years, VLOG has become popular from YouTube to Station B, so a large number of people have turned to VLOG. For the millions of subsidies from the platform, everyone is really hard enough. So, I'm just talking about a general environment for domestic video self-media creation. There are many top fans in station B, and also the UP masters of YouTube channels. You can compare the subscriptions and broadcasts of the two platforms. In fact, more or less also explained some problems. Li Ziqi has millions of YouTube subscriptions, and it is also run by someone else's Li Ziqi team, or it happens to be favored by the YouTube algorithm. It has nothing to do with the cultural output. In particular, some official media are still trying to snatch this kind of successful traffic outside the wall, which is a bit laughable and generous.

When it comes to video, I will not comment on text-based self-media. Therefore, this does not conflict with whether there is excellent self-media content in China.

So, if our own original platform can produce a video type that day, it will become popular on YouTube, and everyone will rush to imitate it. That is something we should be proud of. For example, Mr. Li Yongle is an example worth learning. It may be more appropriate to talk about cultural export at this time. As for Douyin and Kuaishou, I can only say that I am very sure of the business model they have brought, but I do not agree with the values promoted by these contents. Many people will say that it is reasonable. I can only say that I cannot argue with you. I suggest you watch my last video.

Third, when it comes to Taiwan, compare it to the popular up master or youtuber in the mainland. Although many appearances are similar, most of them are homogenized content and food, drink and entertainment. But you will always find that there are a group of youtubers who are constantly exploring and breaking through in politics, culture, or life. You can feel that they truly love the land where they live, not boasting or envy. , and at the same time dare to self-deprecating. I think this has something to do with the mass foundation laid by the blooming of a hundred flowers in Taiwan's early variety show industry. I think this is precisely what the mainland's self-media environment is relatively lacking. The so-called view of entertainment, and even the difference between values and world views, are difficult to accurately describe in words and texts. Therefore, there is a subjective evaluation of the cross-strait self-media in the previous issue. To give an inappropriate example, take the entertainment industry as an example, there are more and more outstanding singers and artists in mainland China than Hong Kong and Taiwan, but at least there is no one who can compete with Lin Xi, Fang Wenshan, or even Li Zongsheng. content creator. Also, our films, in fact, have achieved very good results in the Golden Horse Awards in recent years, and they can be regarded as positive cultural exports. I once said in an episode of the show that back then, it was like "Assembly" that brought I am very moved that films with political background can also be recognized by Golden Horse. But now, because of the so-called ideology, the Golden Horse cannot participate, the free exercise has been cut off, and even the anti-Japanese blockbuster such as "Eight Hundred" has been harmonized because of "technical problems". What does that mean? In the episode when he talked about Taiwan's perception, many people felt that he was "playing on Taiwan", and all kinds of comments were full of sourness. I think there are many youtubers who are more "Taiwan Blowing" and "Beautiful Blowing" than him on YouTube. If you see it, it will be even more ruined. In addition, there are so many Taiwanese netizens on YouTube that compare the cultures and lifestyles of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, and there are so many youtubers who actively affirm the advantages of the mainland. Most of the comments from Taiwanese netizens I have seen are also objective and rational. What does all this mean? Are we too confident, or are we really not confident?

I wonder if our national pride has been "bragged" by the media and mainstream thinking in recent years. The word "humility" has rarely appeared in our values, and no one mentions "gentleness, respectfulness, thrift and yield". We often say that we should be neither humble nor arrogant, but not "belittling ourselves". It seems that we just realized that we should not be "belittling ourselves". , but few people feel that it is necessary to "be neither humble nor arrogant".

One’s own people say they can’t stand it, outsiders say they can’t stand it even more, and they can’t stand it when they say that others are good. Only when they say that others are bad and that they are the best, can they feel that their national pride has been respected?

I once said in a reply to a netizen that it may be that we Chinese have been silent for too long, and we finally have the opportunity to make the world notice us, for fear that others will not know how good and powerful we are. When I hear a little different voices, I feel very sensitive. There are more and more things that people are represented by hurting their feelings. When you realize that this is just a normal state of human nature, no matter how good you are, question yours. The voice always exists. What we need most now is not how confident we are to the outside world, but we need to learn to face doubts and prove ourselves lightly, right?
