A Brief Talk on the Vision of Basic Income

Basic income isn't about making you rich, it's about giving you the freedom to choose how you want to live

If there is a country that gives you regular cash regardless of your age or willingness to work, it is a country with a basic income system. The biggest controversy about basic income is whether people will reduce their willingness to work for pay after it is implemented. On this issue, I personally support Lin Genghan's stance on non-work atmosphere, or rather the value of unpaid workers.

1. Will paid workers continue to work?

Many countries have experimented with basic income systems in the past, and the results have shown that people are willing to work for paid work despite receiving a basic income. My guess is that the possible reasons for this phenomenon are:

  1. The pursuit of material life (quality of life) requirements are relatively high.
  2. Insecurity about whether a basic income will continue in perpetuity in the future.
  3. As a risk-free principal for financial investment.
  4. Have ideals and aspirations for a specific occupation and have relevant vacancies in the market.

The first three guesses should not need to be explained. As for the fourth one, most people worry that the basic income may cause social problems. For example, if there is a basic income, would anyone still be willing to work as a teacher, lawyer, accountant, doctor and other highly professional and not low-stress jobs?

Regarding the fourth question about the willingness to work of ideal people, I also emphasized that "there are relevant vacancies in the market" as a dialectical condition. For example, there are many young students in Taiwan who like to cosplay, write novels, sing and dance, and they are willing to do these things because it is their hobby. If there are limited market-related vacancies, they can continue to develop their interests with a basic income, which will also help drive the public interest in the social and cultural atmosphere; if there are unlimited market-related vacancies, they will be paid to work and do what they are interested in, which seems to follow the same path. There is no conflict whether to oppose basic income or not. In other words, substituting students' interests with teachers, lawyers, accountants, physicians, or scientists should theoretically not conflict.

2. Types of Unpaid Workers

Generally, the unpaid workers most directly associated with them are mothers or fathers who take care of their children full-time at home. As the beneficiaries of the basic income, no one should have any opinion. Especially in an era of declining birthrates and countries all over the world, the time spent by those who are still willing to have children and raise them should have the social rewards they deserve even though they are not paid workers. Here is a scenario to imagine:

One day, the father who used to work alone to support the family is unemployed and has a limited number of days to claim unemployment benefits. With the end of the COVID-19 epidemic in the distance, the father may be out of work for far more days than can claim unemployment benefits. Time, when he has to support himself, his wife and two children, suddenly becomes very helpless.

If there is a basic income, the father, mother, and two children in the family can have a fixed amount of cash from the government and can ride out the unemployment wave of the epidemic. As long as the motivation to work has not been wiped out, the father will still do so-called paid work after the epidemic.

3. Summary

Through the above several scenarios, it may be found that one of the main points of basic income is to allow human beings to have the freedom to choose how to live. Those who have dreams can realize their dreams without worrying about being hungry; those who are willing to work for pay will not suffer from a loss of basic income, but can avoid the risks of unemployment and preserve their dignity when they cannot find a job; even if People who have absolutely no motivation to work and are not useful to society, at least with a basic income, should not do things that hurt society for money.

Finally, I am wondering if LikeCoin is possible to implement a basic income system? Whether creators can use LikeCoin as a meal under the existing system depends on the appreciation of many appreciative citizens, but when there are more creators, in addition to being diluted, the distributed LikeCoin may also be excessively concentrated on having the most readers in the future. Appreciated on several big platforms or big veterans. On the other hand, considering that everyone can be a citizen and vote, LikeCoin, which has a basic income every month, not only can readers have the freedom to appreciate the author's configuration every month, but the longer readers participate in the LikeCoin system, the longer they will participate in citizenship You will have more influence when voting. (Note: the above is just an idea, there should be many problems and loopholes behind it if it is really implemented)
