Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.Toombs County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup last Friday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 42-15 win over Dublin. Toombs County's victory was all the more impressive since the Fighting Irish were averaging only 14.93 points allowed on the season.
It was another big night for Tj Stanley, who threw for 152 yards and three touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes, and also rushed for 97 yards and one touchdown on only nine carries. He got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 60 yards.
Meanwhile, Northeast hadn't done well against Fitzgerald recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way last Friday. Northeast blew past Fitzgerald 46-14.
Toombs County better keep an eye on Nick Woodford. He was instrumental in Northeast's win, rushing for 326 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 14.2 yards per carry, and also picking up 30 receiving yards and one touchdown. Woodford has been hot, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last seven times he's played. Reginald Glover was another key player, rushing for 105 yards.
Stanley was just one part of a punishing run game: Northeast was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 457 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Northeast's win bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Toombs County, their victory bumped their record up to 12-1.
Toombs County came up short against Northeast in their previous matchup back in November of 2020, falling 27-14. Thankfully for Toombs County, Travion Solomon (who threw for 254 yards and one touchdown while completing 73.9% of his passes, and also rushed for 40 yards and one touchdown) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
