Open open_in_newGoogle Search Console page

Add an entry for your website (sites.google.com) and verify it (if you have not done so before)

Now create an entry for domain that hosts your sitemap

on "Verify ownership" page you will see "Upload an HTML file to your site" option,

enter the filename that is displayed for you (it will look like googleXXXXXXX.html)

in the input field below and click "Save":

add new sitemap for that new domain with this name:
