閱讀心得:《Notes from a Public Typewriter》一 Michael Gustafson
“Typewriters remind us that words are sound–
they make noise like the striking of keys
the scratch of pen on paper.
What have we lost now that words are silent?”
This little book is a sweet and philosophical collection of writings from people who have visited the Literati Bookstore in Michigan and played with the typewriter there. It captures the individuals’ experiences and the moments of their thoughts at specific points in their lives, containing so much more than its size.
As kids, my sister and I used to mess around in our mom’s office and ‘assist her’ on her typewriter. Those click-clack sounds are still echoing in the room. The book reminds me of my cherished moments and makes me wonder— what would I write if I stumbled upon a typewriter ever again?
